Title: Beer bread
Post by: JoJoDapyro on March 15, 2015, 02:54:50 pm
Auggie gave me this recipe, I just tweaked it a hair. 3 cups of flour, 1/3 cup of sugar (white or brown) 1/2 TSP of baking powder, and a 12 ounce beer. Mix the dry ingriedents and then add the beer. Mix together until it is dough. Put it in a greased loaf pan, and bake at 350 for 50 or 60 minutes.

Today I added 1 cup of chopped apples and a fair amount of cinnamon. I used an apple ale as the beer, and used brown sugar.  As well as cinnamon on the top before baking. Man this stuff is good. Thanks Auggie.

I've never had much luck with beer breads, usually end up with too much of an alcohol smell to really get many other flavors, but most of what i've tried have been savory breads, never added apples and the like. I'll have to give it a try.

I tried the original recipe but added a bit of maple syrup to sweeten it. It was pretty good. I used a bitter tasting beer though and it added a funny tang to the flavour. Next time I'll use a sweeter beer.

Beer and bread two of my favourite things
Gotta give that a whorl. I've got a batch of 5 gallons of bitter ready to bottle up.
Maybe the yeasty dregs would work well for baking?
Woo just tried it, best home baked bread I've ever made.. and 40 pints of beer too ;D Result!

Make sure beer is room temp. It will not rise if you use an ice cold drinkin beer.....Noah
