Heres an osage that's been in the works for awhile that I finally got time to finish up. It came from well seasoned stock I got from Roy that sat outside for years and years and years. About half of it was salvageable, and worth a shot to try. I didn't use any heat on the working limbs and left them el natural, and they have some funky subtle things going on,but nothing to crazy to tiller thru.
It has a 4" long by 1/16" wide slit hole in it(hence the name) >:D Its only 59" ntn...47@26"....20.4 ounces mass weight...white oak tip overlays...zebrawood handle accents. It has hunting written all over it with those stats and how hard it shoots for for only 47 pounds. This one could see some woods time for sure 8)
thanks for looking!!!!! :D

Killer! I love how your bows are a workshop on what can be done. Very nice. Tiller looks awesome.
-
You had to find a way to incorporate that funky stuff in the handle, and the rest is just sweet with those needle tips. Way cool bow Chris.
-
I think the best part about this bow is how much the recurves are working. Awesome execution sir!
-
Great looking bow Blackhawk. Very nice work with the slit and the accents in the deep handle are a nice touch. I hope I get a chance to see it in person this summer ;) You could keep your score card in the slit when you are on the 3D course.
-
Awesome bow, awesome name! The finish job looks super good as well, nice work!
-
Damn sweet blackhawk with just a touch of nasty thrown in, great bend
-
Awesome! Very nicely done. Jawge
-
very nice chris! Sweet bow. I'm able to start seeing some grass by my house also
-
Killer looking bow man, I like it
-
This bow perfectly illustrates the "crack"-like addictive qualities of bowmaking!
Chickenhawk is the classic junkie! Well played, sir, a brave and noble effort well rewarded with a lovely outcome!
-
Winner winner chicken dinner! That thing looks great Chris! Handle looks comfortable for a change too!
-
Awesome, Chris! one of a kind bow. 8)
-
Sexy!
The old man doesn't know what he's missing by giving away any osage that won't make perfect boards. He has a character flaw.... a fear of character.
-
That is a beauty blackhawk! Zebrawood really sets it off.
-
Thanks for the compliments and replies guys :)
If I make it to some shoots ill be bringing this one along clintster
Nice to start seeing the ground again huh Paul..even if its covered in water..lol. were flooding out here...the great Ohio is spilling her banks in a few places.
Yeah jdub...I won't deny that...I'm still a junkie ;) gotta have that yeller dust up my nose
Thanks Jeff...that is too bad he can't get over that, cus this bow shoots as good if not better than his "perfect" glued boardy bows  ...lol..."a fear of character" ...maybe if he looked in the mirror he'd get over it cus we all know he's a character himself ;) ....always love me a good Roy bashing
-
Wicked bow Mr. BlackHawk. Character plus............. 8) :o 8) :o
-
Wow, I have seen many bows with holes in them, but this is the first one with a slit. That is awesome. Nice work.
-
Cool little stick man. I like the grip.
-
It's ok I guess..
-
That is a sexy little slotty piece of Osage!!!
-
Yeah jdub...I won't deny that...I'm still a junkie ;) gotta have that yeller dust up my nose
Never thought of that dust as booger sugar before, but ok.
-
I love everything about that one! Hope to get to see it in person come spring!
-
Nice work Chris. Tiller looks fantastic. Hope you bring home some bacon with it. :)
Deer bacon, or you could come out west for some elk bacon >:D
-
Man buddy every bow that you put out has some serious curves. I would have cut around that slit and just made the bow without it. Awesome wood work, sweet hooks, beautiful tiller! Well done Sir! Patrick
-
Wow what a bow. That thing has a perfect tiller on it. Love the handle and the first pic. really man so cool.
-
That's just AWESOME! Top shelf for sure! Nice work. Nice work indeed.
-
She's a beauty! Very cool.
-
very, very pretty!
-
That's a beauty, very nice work in all aspects. :)
Pappy
-
Wow! You sure do pretty work. I have a bunch of questions but I will ask one. Did you shoot the bow any before you gave it a final finish? I was just wondering if character bows like this one can be shot before final finishing?
-
beautiful bow really looks great and very nice working recurves!
-
Nothing to say but great!
Michael
-
Great looking bow. I like how you did the handle.
-

Absolutely!!! You treat it like any other or more so. I shot it for two rounds before I even added the handle accents and shaped the handle out, then shot it for two more rounds after I shaped it before I finish sanded and sealed it up.
-
Thanks a bunch for all the nice replies and compliments guys!!! It really is appreciated... Each and every one :D
-
Wow! Nice job. That's purdy. Your tillering method and result amazes me sometimes.
-
Now that is a sweet bow my friends !
Good job Chris !
-
You have a way of turning crazy cool staves into awesome looking bows, that stave fell into the right hands.
Has that beautiful color you only get from weathered and well seasoned osage. You got a heck of a nice bow out of that one Chris.
-
It's ok I guess ;)
-
That thing is awesome blackhawk. I have a stave with a similar check in it that is causing me some issues on how I will lay it out. Hope it turns out half as nice as that thing.
-
Chris here is her older sister. ;) :) Love the curves on that one also, special bow for sure.
Pappy
-
Whaaaaa?!!! :o
Oh yes... gorgeous.
I love the way the tiller still looks spot on, it makes no compromises for being a weird stave.
Bravo... I'd take my hat off to you if I had one on ::)

Alwayslookin....that slit hole isn't a check...its how the tree adapted to and grew from a scar.
Kewl pappy!!! That suckas dark...gotta be a few years old there ;)
Thanks folks :)
-
SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTS BOW I SEEN FOR A WHILE.
-
Ai Caramba! That is exceptional! :D
-
Awesome execution, Chris. Fun to see you make a shorter bow again. Also, a perfectly timed post for alwayslookin, I saw some pictures of the stave he is referring to and that should help him.
Hope it brings you luck.
-
Great looking bow Chris. Looks like you got all the bend out of that one
-
Nice lookin' bow, Chris. I especially like your handle and the working recurves.
Hope all is well, tell all that we said Hello.
Matt
-
Steller job all the way around. I really like the bows I make and then I see another one of yours and I almost dont want to post my next one. You really got it down buddy. Hope I can make it to the classic this year and see it up close.
-
Man Chris that bow is outstanding.
-

Kewl pappy!!! That suckas dark...gotta be a few years old there ;)
Thanks folks :)
the part in the handle section is a check right? Looks really similar to the one I have in my handle section.
-
Alwayslookin ...yes those are checks...I wouldn't sweat it if its in your handle and doesn't run thru from belly to back and off an edge. Even when in the limbs they usually won't cause an issue as long as they don't run off an edge of a limb.
-
Really nice, that thing has a sight no fair! I really like the zebra wood too
-
Nice bow Chris, really like the thin tips, looks like you got them a thin as possible with the recure and it looks like there working just a bit.
I bet it pulls real smooooooooth.. :D

that's my issue lining the bow so it's doesn't run off edge
-
Very nice! :)
-
Dude! That is bad arse. What an incredible piece of art.
-
At a loss for words . . . .
-
Ya it was built in 04 Chris and has been blooded in battle with a couple of deer. :) Very cool they way some trees grow, quite the challenge chasing the ring where the go into the slit also
I commend you work. :) As has been said on another thread ,lots of talented Boyer's on this site and you are 1 of them for sure. :)
Pappy
-
Nice looking bow Chris. I like it. Good character on that one.
-
Looking sweet bro! Now let's get our butts in the woods and kill something!
-
Beautiful finish and tiller on the bow! If it was my build it would probably split the limb on my first shot and I'd have a beautiful tomato stake! Keep pushing the envelope!
-
Very extraordinary, perfectly tillered and finished.
-
Thanks everybody again!!! :D
