Title: Applauding the Craftsmanship Displayed by the Bowyers on this Site
Post by: Jazzdad on March 10, 2015, 12:31:58 am
I just got the emails announcing the Self and Backed Bows of the Year.  Have to take a moment to appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship of all the contestants!

As a relatively new archer and beginning bowyer, I'm not jealous... well a little... but more in awe!

I hope to have the skill, patience and creativity to produces bows of that ilk at some point in the future. (My wife would prefer I go in the garage and work on a bow instead of pestering her to appreciate you guys handy work  :)

Thank you and carry on! Please.

That's for sure.  I'm just blown away by the beautifully crafted and tillered bows on here.  If you like wooden bows, these guys deliver the good goods. :)

Was a hard choice trying to just pick one for each class. They are all sweet.

I would add to that, "helpfulness".  Whenever I've needed a bit of advice, someone on this site has responded.  A really nice community of folks.

Craftsmanship breeds craftsmanship. It all starts here and ends in all of our respective shops.

I was havig a conversation with some guys about something last night that relates to this. Skateboarding, bike riding, dancing, surfing. All these things have been taken to new levels becuase of internet sharig. Bow building seems to be the same way. Every group of builders has made contributions for other groups to build on and take a step further. I am really curious as to how far it can go. Not all that much you can do with a stick! Or is there?

Primitave archer magazine and the online community here have been a huge inspiration for many. I can't imagine where bowyery would be without it. I know I would be years behind the curve. I've learned more from folks on this site than anywhere else. I'm proud to be a part of this community!

Bruce Lee once said, " To me ultimately martial arts means honestly expressing yourself".
I feel like there is a little bit each bowyer's personality shaved into each bow they create.  To me each bow is a work of art and an expression of it's artist.

The way inspiration gets handed back and forth between people reminds me of something Del the Cat once said, "You pay my way, I'll pay yours, and we'll both go for free!" Not sure how that works financially, but in the matter of inspiration, ir is not only feasible, but a dang good business plan to boot!

I could not agree more with eveything thats been said. When I first started doing this thing 8yrs ago I was the only one I knew doing it. I have learned huge amounts from the guys on this site. It has given me the courage to try things I only thought about before and a good place to ask questions when I needed guidance. I only hope that something I do here will benefit someone else as much as I have been benefited.
