Title: Finishing a Boo backed bow

Hi Guys.

I finished tillering and test shooting my new ipe-walnut-boo tri-lam and I`m going for the finishing stage.
Since it`s the first time I`m using boo, I`d like to hear (of read... O:)) some expert advice- How do you finish
a boo backed bow? from sanding through staining to a applying a finish.

  Dyes work beter than stains on bamboo.  Get the rind off without overflattening the nodes.  Otherwise, I just do what I want with the colors and finished with several coats of outdoor polyurathane.

This is a boo backed ipe that I finished by sanding partway through the rind.  I used 320 grit and took it down until all blemishes were gone and it was a light creamy ivoryish color.  Then I used a sea sponge and gel stain to stamp on a random pattern. Once the stain dried, I finished with first 3 coats of wipe-on poly, then wrapped the handle with hemp string, then applied 3 more coats of wipe-on poly.  I did steel wool lightly between coats of poly.  A final coat of good carnuba furniture wax and it was done.
