Title: Californian inspired sinew backed Osage 63# @ 27'' (lots of pics)
Post by: adams89 on February 21, 2015, 04:17:28 pm
This is a bow I just recently finished. I like those painted yew paddle bows from California and especially the art on those limbs, so I tried some myself and tried to make a  Recuve Osage bow out of two belly splits from two billets I made a Recurve from earlier and I like it a lot, thanks to the small tips this little bow has virtually no hand shock and is very comfortable to shoot and I must say I love the draw of sinew backed Osage! These  paints are artificially weathered and I tried to give the paint job an used look and a fitting leather handle.
Those buffers are made out of ferrit fur.The tips are made of buffalow horn and I gave those tips a little rim to run the string in. I made them as  small as I dared them to be.
the buffer of fur work great for silencing( never thought that). Overall I'm happy and I hope you'll like it too.

Specs
56 inches long
63 pounds at 27 inches
Sinew backed Osage
no tempering, steamed recurves.

Great looking bow Adam, I like how you painted the back and sides but left the belly bare.  FD looks sweet.

Super nice bow, Johannes. I like the profiles unbraced, braced, drawn. Very good work.

And that's EXACTLY what I call a short bow. Its short, but highly functional still. Excellent job.

V cool bow... we can see the draw weight in your forearm muscles.
I particularly like the white fluffty bits ... but then I'm a cat ::)

Thank you everybody for your kind words!
as for the bow, there are two things I learned on this bow especially
1.) those fur strips really quiet the bow down without slowing it down like string silencers, I couldn't believe it how quiet it got ;D
2.) Sinew and osage in the right dimensions with sinew free tips are really enjoyable to shoot it's like pulling a heavy rubberband!

I have to say that I get inspired a lot on this page and I see many, many great bows, that urge me to build new ones and I'm very thankful for that.

so thank you all for your feedback  ! ;)
