Even the world's slowest bow finisher gets one wrapped up now and then. I started this one over the summer thinking it would be my main hunting bow...but hey, it will be ready for next year (only about 7 months to go)!
Osage flat bow, 62" nock to nock, about 55# at 26", lower limb about 1.5" shorter, limbs 1 5/8" at the fades to 1/2" nocks. Brain tanned buckskin cord grip (couldn't seem to get one piece of buckskin to fit right, even after dampening and stretching, so I cut it up) and floppy rest. The bottom limb has a funny deflex/reflex thing going on that was a bit tricky for me...I sort of wish I had heated a bit of a flip into the top one to match more closely, but oh well. The actual tip deflection isn't as much as it looks. Aniline dye and Tru Oil finish. D97 string...looks like I need to boost the brace height just a smoosh. It shoots a lot better than my previous Osage bow of a similar design with a lot less set, so I am pretty happy!
Full draw in next post...

I thought the same thing when I saw the photo - I haven't put one on the new string yet. Thanks!

Great looking bow.

I love the finish on that one

A fine looking bow indeed. I like your tip design too. Good luck with your hunts next fall.

Good looking bow!

Yeah Tim that'll work. Hows it shoot?

Very nice tiller. I noticed the top limb leaning back toward you a bit, probably just because of the nock point thing.
Good job.

Got to love that, nice job and as you figure out it ant a road race, slow and easy usually works best on self bows. Not sure 7 months is required ;) :) :) But ha it your bow and your time. :)

Nice one! Like the use of buckskin! And the tiller looks spot on :)

Thanks guys! Sidewinder, it shoots great in my opinion, although I might change my mind if I got the chance to shoot some of the bows I see on here. This is the fourth adult-weight bow I have successfully completed, and the second one I have bothered putting a finish on. The first Osage I finished has seen pretty good use for three years, especially the last year when I really tried not to use my glass longbow much at all. This one shoots a whole lot better than that first one ever did - faster, easier to shoot accurately, and less hand shock.
Pappy, I do hope to get a bit faster, but it seems that I have trouble finishing projects sometimes...also, when I get to final tiller and shooting in, I think I get too scared of messing up. I had a really nice elm bow to that stage this summer and messed it up by taking too much off the lower limb while I was balancing it. Boy that made me mad (and slower)!

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast......maybe ???

Nice bow man!
Awesome tiller!!!
