Title: First file knife
Post by: ssgtchad on February 03, 2015, 04:02:41 pm
This is  my first attempt to make a knife from an old Nicholson file. all I did was temper the steel grind it out with a belt sander and putting edge on it. The scales are scrap Osage. Thanks for looking

Good job, that should do whatever cutting you need.

Nice work. I have one of those from Kevin Halverson and its my favorite. It stays sharp and cuts about anything.

thanks  everyone I really appreciate the compliments it was a really fun project and I would encourage any body if you have the time to try it. Sorry for the crappy pictures I'll try to take some later this week and post them. Don't use a dremel with a sanding drum to remove the tooling it leaves little waves on blade.  I'm gonna make another 1 this weekend I plan on it being a patch knife for friend of mine. Ill try to take pictures as i go and start a build along thread

I was lucky enough to win one of KH's knives like this, also.  Love the way that type of handle feels in my hand and the balance of the knife.

That thing is super cool.  Nice work, I gotta get myself on that project.

Hey nice knife. Can I get in on the KH lovefest too? The dude is a mastermind when it comes to making stuff. I have several of his knives, my favorite is an OB Special. Easy to sharpen and holds a great edge!
