Title: Another Osage billet ?
Post by: ---GUTSHOT---> on February 01, 2015, 06:03:26 pm
Which ends to splice together? I don't know which ends where up or down. And can I get some pics of splices from you experts out there. Thanks

if the wood is good enough that you can't tell which was the top, it won't matter whether you splice top or bottom.

Don't have any photos of splices for you.

  Splice the 2 ends together that are at the top in your photo...That will leave the character at the handle, maybe easier for you in tillereing...

I'd splice the butt ends.

I like to choose the ends that appear to be the flattest and easiest to cut a tight splice in. If all is equal, I splice the thicker ringed ends together which ends up being just the way Pat does it.
