Title: Limb Twist Setup
Post by: Gordon on January 31, 2015, 10:09:38 pm
Here is my setup for correcting limb twist. Not very hitech but it works. Show us yours!

Do you heat the limb?  how?

I removed twist in a very similar way as your set up.  I have a golf club shaft that I use to hold up the end of the stave.  If the twist isn't to bad I remove it on my caul when I reflex it.

Steve, I use a heat gun on the area to the right of the pipe wrench and weight.

My set up is similar to Gordon's but I use a rachet strap on the end of the wrench conected to a heavy weight on the ground. That way I can crank or loosen it until the limb is where I want it.

I use a caul, c clamps and wedges with a heat gun.

I clamp the handle or limb on edge in my bench vise, put a big monkey wrench out past the part of the limb I want to correct. The wrench handle sticks out over  the bench and I lean a ruler against  it so  I can gauge the movement. Sometimes I add weight to the wrench handle as needed.

I use the same setup but I use a strap wrench(like an oil filter wrench) to avoid marking the bow.

Nice Gordon! Mine looks about the same. I use my bar clamps on the limbs so I can add weight out at their ends and get more torque on the twist. Bowyers sure are a resourceful group.

I use something similar. Most of the time a big crescent wrench with thick leather against the bow. Then a shopping bag tied to the hole on the end. Then I just add what ever is laying close to me that has some weight to it to the bag until I get the bend I want. Looks like the most redneck thing you ever seen. Patrick

I use pretty much the same setup, different weight, differnt clamps and no can haha. Instead of the can I have meanwhile an adjustable stick.
