Title: First RR spike knife
Post by: BOWMAN53 on January 26, 2015, 02:27:55 pm: I finally decided to make a knife out of the rail road spike I've have for about five years. This is my first attempt.

My makeshift forge. Blower is the pump from a blow up mattress.

thanks kevin, yeah it had HC on it.
a cross peen hammer wouldve been great to have, had trouble getting the blade to widen.

a coworker got the idea in my head and i couldnt wait lol. the funny part is, i didnt even have a propper hammer, i had to use the hammer pole of a hatchet lol

cross peins are almost a must have when forging blades and thawks.
I have 3 that I use.
now I need an angled pein.
ya got the forge .
forge one from a ball pein on the ball end

I have the supplies sitting in the garage to assemble a small brake drum forge and get started as well. I think this is going to have to get bumped up on the priority list after seeing your blade Jordan. Looks great and thank you for the inspiration to get started!! :)
