My curs doing a little extreme treeing. The old reverse tree trick
-
Nice looking dogs there. I have never seen one up in a tree like that.
-
A good dog will get the fur in it's teeth, any which way but loose. >:D
I found my bitch Black and Tan twenty feet up one night
where a dead fall crotched into a standing tree.
I could see her going up ok but totally feared she would fall
on the turnaround or decent. Those pads work way better than I expected.
She came down and went on to tree the coon.
I miss those days.

Squirrel had gone in that hole , and we could hear it growling at them. Miss Tinker ( who was with me at the Classic last year) was in the adapt and overcome mode. The cavity in that tree was only about 6''x36'' ,but for some reason we could not convince the old tree rat to come out and see what all the ruckus was about. Tinker tried in vain to squeeze her brindle butt into that hole for 10mn.

Have you ever "twisted out" a squirrel in a hole? My grandfather and I used to squirrel hunt with a cur and on occasion he would cut a limber switch and split the end. Then he would ram it up or down the hole and start twisting. When he pulled it out, there was a very irate tree rat on the end!
-
Gsulfridge,
We wore out three saplings trying to twist it out. It was extremely ill and would chew on the stick.
-
I've used and old piece of barbwire before broke off at the barbs. Gets all twisted up in the hair or tail and he comes right out all pissed off. ;D

I really like them curs. I Would get one but we have a lot of porcupines here and I don't think that would be a good combination.
-
I got me a tree dog too! he sits up in there some times and just watches down the hill. pretty funny

I often wonder about what's going through their mind when they do that. Find a good spot and just stare off into the distance. Probably dreaming about going back to the land and being a wolf. Then they go back to their dish, have snack and curl up in front of the fireplace. They're not much different than us, are they ;)

Ah come on Keith, Bill and Greg, just stick your arm down the hole and pull 'em out >:D

I actually witnessed that while hunting with Papaw as well. After the fact, he suggested that I not try it, and then asked if I had a clean hankerchief to wrap his hand with! Good memories :)
-
Tracy, I didn't make it to 40 with all 11 fingers by being dumb.

Greg I use to live trap squirrel for research and still got all the bite marks from ear tagging and radio collars. :P
