Title: I have a vision!
Post by: Blaflair2 on January 14, 2015, 03:10:45 pm
I had to scrap the osage takedown, the wood was just too checked, damn dead standing osage. I wanna make a lam takedown, white oak backing with ipe belly, my question...

I can't cut fades persice enough IMO for a glue up, I was thinking of trying to get a riser blank and sandwhich it between the oak and ipe, but backwards, with the oak going up the fade on the back and ipe on the belly, would this work or am I nuts!

Also was thinking of long feathered wedges, which I may be able to make

Another thought, if I added a tapered maple lam under the oak would that help my chances

No, I'll try and doodle something and post it

It won't let me add pix for some reason. I want a forward grip with a hill style/black widow fade area.

IF that isn't gonna work my other idea was building a long wedge like riser

If you can't do it you can buy one , or spend that money on what you need to do it, I've done those with a rasp and belt sander

I'm not so confidant in myself, and should I use ipe or osage? And how long u recommend? I was thinkin 64-62"

I have a bunch of English walnut I wanna use for the riser. But like I said, I don't wanna mess it up. Know any build alongs for one?

Like this but with the fades on the back. A forward handle

Make sense? The oak backing will come up the fades and the ipe will be the flat belly coming out of the sleeve.

That should be doable if you have a belt sander use the nose to feather it out and glue it to the belly then steam the backing strips and clamp it to to riser, I'd cut a pc to fit n to use to clamp it

The sleeve I have is a small D. I was thinking of starting at 1 3/8" wide 64" long. And adjust
