Our first attempt at tanning deer hide seemed to start well. One problem though, after pickling (vinegar, salt and water), we forgot to rinse before the tanning oil. It now smells of vinegar. Is there any way to clean it or salvage it?

You will probably have to remove the oil. Soaking in warm water and Dawn dish soap might do the trick but I don't know.
