Title: At the archery museum in bass pro shops Springfield
Post by: sleek on December 07, 2014, 07:34:30 pm
All I can say is wow. I love this place. All kinds of bows made and shot by all the great ones, including sinew bows and the first compounds and prototypes.  But mostly all stick bows and sinew backed. Also a baleen backed. Super freaking neat!

As I have heard here before, "pictures, or it didn't happen"

Sleek, I've been there a few times. I go there for inspiration!

Are you from around springfield area? Or just in town visiting? I live about 20 minutes from bass pro! Patrick

They also have the bow that Geronimo made when he was in captivity. It's Osage and pretty much just a sliver but beautifully made. Patrick

I think that might be the Bear Archery Museum display. I saw it in Gainesville, FA at the Bear factory Museum years ago.

I just found some of my pictures I took in Gainesville before they sold everything. It was an amazing collection, hated to see it go.

I saw that display at a Bass Pro Shop in Branson, MO about 2 years ago. It was nice.

I can show my age here, I saw the Bear collection when it was still in Grayling, MI before it went to Gainsville. I am itching to go see it in Springfield though. I'd like to take the kids there this summer.

I wish my phone battery hadnt died! If I saw this earlier we could have met up. I go to the gunshows there to sell knives. A fellow I know makes his own damascus and I sell his knoves at shows around the Oklahoma area.

Sorry guys no pocs my battery wasnt charged enough to take any. I will be there in January if nothing comes up and I can take pics then.

At our local Sheelz, they have a Fred Bear tribute going on.There are several pics of Fred and friends on their hunts, but the huge center pic is of Art young.I guess they thought it was Fred because of the short brimmed hat.I told em different, but i bet it wasnt heard. Most likely most wouldnt know or care.

I'd really like to see some pictures of this.  Especially Geronimo's bow, as you say.
Would someone take photos of this in the future?

Been to the original Bear Museum in Grayling many times.  Will have to see if I can find some the old 110 and 35mm photos that my folks took.  One of the Bear collectors in Grayling (and there are many) has the original doors to the museum.  I sent a photo copy of my dad and Mr. Bear standing together at a camp fire out the other day to a Bear collector. Mr. Bear is hold a Schlitz beer I believe.   Mr. Bear used to come to the archery shoots and hang out with other archers.  He sat at our fire one night shooting the breeze with my dad and others.  I told my sister in law to get her bow and Fred would sign it.  She did and he did and now she won't let anyone touch it.
