Title: First Bow (Red Oak Board) and THANK YOU

I have been a member of this forum for about 2 years and what started out as curiosity led to the acquisition of some new tools, books, materials and finally a finished product. When I was 12 years old my boy scout troop went to a traditional archery get together and all I remember is some old bearded mountain men teaching us how to make bows. Mine broke unfortunately but ever since then I have always wanted to make another.

Ok so I know the tiller isn't perfect, and actually as you can see on the lower limb she has some serious prop twist, I'm not sure how to fix that, but honestly I'm just glad she doesn't break (yet) when I pull her back. She came out light but I guess for a newbie that is a good thing, she is 25# @ 26"

Thanks for all of your help, for all I know it might have been some member on here who was at that get together when I was 12 and helped me for the first time. My next project is going to be to cut down some vine maple when I go home for thanksgiving in a few weeks.

Nice job on your first.   The twist is probably because one side is thicker than the other. It is a common problem. Use your fingers and thumb as a thickness gauge, working across the limb as you move down it.  you will feel the difference. Remove woo from the belly of the thicker side.

I see a little twist but the tiller looks ok. Your draw looks bunched up though, kinda like the weight is too much.

You are definitely right about my draw being all bunched. This picture was one of the first of me pulling it back that far so I was a little nervous (hence the scrunchiness). But since then it has been drawing comfortably!

I figured as much. I've got a friend that wears a hockey mask and a cup when he first draws a new bow, especially one that I made. It's a fine looking bow, just work out that twist and it'll be a shooter for sure.

Tiller looks fine. If it shoots fine I woulnt worry about it too much. Just a lesson for your next one.
Maybe cut your arrow down a bit ;)
And good call on the vine maple, it's great bow wood
