Title: Pukko and sheath
Post by: swamp yeti on November 10, 2014, 07:06:29 am
Just finished another pukko and this time I made a sheath. The knife blade is 440 stainless and is 9 and 5 eights inches long, blade is 4 and 3 eights long and handle is 5 and 2 eights long, the handle is made out of maple burl, spalted maple, fiber spacers and a brass bolster. The sheath is made out black alcohol dyed leather, has a inner plastic sheath and saddler stitched.

One of my all time favorite knife styles.  You did it proud, what a beauty.  Curly birch is beautiful stuff.

WOW - very fine craftsmanship!  I generally do not favor 440 steel, ...but you make it look real good here.

Nice to notice someone on the other side of the Atlantic understands the difference between puukko and knife. (Note; correct word is puukko, with double-U, in Finnis. Puukko is and has been through history really a multi purpose tool in Fenno-Scandia, i.e. in Finland, Sweden and Norway area. Unlike knifes, which are more for cutting flesh, puukko is good for all kind of wood work but you can skin any game with it, help cooking around camp fire and defend youself against attackers in case you end up in situations like that.

Nice work according to the photos. I hope youŽll have plenty of pleasant moments in using your puukko in heavy duty.
