Post by: bubby on November 09, 2014, 12:00:33 pm
this pretty hawk flew in the open service door at the library Friday, one wall close to 30' tall glass as you can see in the one pic he about knocked hisself out trying to leave, but he managed it(http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt320/bubncheryl/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM01090_zpsjxhgxopy.jpg) (http://s623.photobucket.com/user/bubncheryl/media/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM01090_zpsjxhgxopy.jpg.html)

We had a Cooper's hawk bust out a window pane at work.  It got inside a classroom building and couldn't find its way out.  Me and a biology professor managed to catch it with a blanket and set it free outside.  I only got one scratch on the back of the neck during the fiasco which I wish we had video taped.  Most of my contribution to the hawk roundup was bleeding and cursing - the Doc made the catch.  I guess that's why he gets paid the big $.  Campus police work comes with a wide variety of stuff to challenge me - I swear I was safer at the sheriff's office.  I don't know why it broke in to begin with.  My guess was it was trying to grab a squirrel or a frog from near the glass.  It made for a strange morning for me.  ;D

Those long skinny legs and the red eye make me think you were dealing with a cooper's hawk or a sharpshinned hawk.  Cool! Definitely cool!

I'll take your word for it jw, I'm certainly not a bird expert, thought he was long and narrow but the colors seemed right, I was just glad we got him out undamaged although a bit frazzled

Cool! 8)  So did he look at you and say....."So are you going to come along peacefully, or..... am I going to have to muss you up?"  (The Chicken Hawk to the Foghorn Leghorn, cartoon.)
