I have read about him several times and have always been left amazed that someone with his blatant disregard for life and limb could come thru the war alive.  His quote about how if it weren't for the Yanks they coulda kept the war going another ten years is one of the best quotes of WWII. (Right up there with the guy from Easy Company being asked how it felt to be rescued and saying, "Rescued?  About time the rest of the you caught up with us!")
