I got this stave from Eric "Indianguy". It's the first time I have tried black locust and see why the Cherokee used this wood almost exclusively. There are things I could do to make this bow faster- like narrowing the tips, but I wanted to see how the actual bows shoot. Great fast shooter and I'm accurate at 27 yards with this bow. The bow is just under 60" tip to tip. Draws 55# @ 27". Has 2 large knots on either side of the handle. Simple good bow design. I will be using more black locust in the future.

That thing is sweet man nice job

That bow turned out great chuck, I too am getting into my first BL stave.
Sure is a pretty wood. I like where those knots ended up
-
Beautiful tiller from an "interesting ::) " stave.

Sweet locust bow. I like the traditional look of the nocks as well. Locust is nice wood, and the knots make for unique bows.
-
Nice job keeping that stave in one piece Chuck, those are some nasty knots to work with. Black locust makes a snappy bow for sure, I put it right up there with osage and buckthorn as my personal favorites.
-
Wooo, that's a gnarly one Chuck, nice work.
-
Nice and simple! 8)

Nice job working around those rough knots. Amazing what you can do with a well crafted stick.
-
Wow, I wouldn't call that one simple, that's awesome. Nice work.

Looks awesome, I'm working on my first black locust now hope it turns out as good
-
Wow. Nice work on a tough stave.
-
Wow that's awesome. Love the character! Good work!
-
Yeah, great stuff. This is my favorite available wood, despite every single stave having those old, repaired borer holes in it.
55 lb at 62" long abnd 27" draw is impressive work.
-
always like seeing your bows Chuck, no exception here
-
That's one knotty bow.....nice work on a very challenging stave....good job!

-
Kinda likin them simple bows, are ya? :)
-
Thanks everyone :D. Besides the trouble of finding a ring on the back around the knots- a simple bow. Traxx, simple bows shoot best. The mystery is solved. I'm still not going to stop building short complicated bows though.
-
Very cool Chuck, I dig the tips
-
Fun to see you post a bow like this, Chuck. I like your tiller, also.
-
Looks great. Black locust grows all over here, yet I have never tried it. Seems like quite a few fine locust bows have been posted lately, makes me determined to try it.
-
I'm still not going to stop building short complicated bows though.
I would hope not ;D

Great bow and great tiller. This is a clean and awesome simple design. Love it. :)
