This bow is built from a sister stave to the yew recurve that won BOM back in august. Same nice ring count and colour.
It had some deflex and twist, and I got rid of most of it on my caul. I guess these would be called slight recurves,
they look like they might open up the smallest amount at full draw.
I shot this bow in without the skins, and after adding them it seemed to pick up a few pounds. Its the first time I made
my top limb longer, about an 1 3/4", and i struggled a bit with the tiller.
Its 58" nock to nock, about 52# @ 26". Its been to 27", curiosity got me.
1 1/8" wide at the handle to 3/8" tips and a slightly crowned belly.
The bow weighs just over 14 oz, including the handle wrap, which is built up leather and cane. I wrapped silk soaked
in hide glue in between the cane to hide the bits of leather poking through.
Very high early string tension, zero handshock, and seems to shoot fast. My 10th bow, and so far my favorite.
She's not named yet, and still needs some oil, but I couldnt wait to show her off!
thanks for looking.

Dude, that is a beauty. Sturgeon skins are so full of character. Great tiller and nice handle! I'd bet you could lose some width on those curves (not the tips but the shoulders below the string groove) and still maintain the nice profile. Great work man,

Beautiful Bow. Really giving us newbies something to strive for.
Where did you get the Sturgeon Skins? Also just wondering, do you live in the woods or go there so all your pictures look amazing?
-
Fantastic!!! Beautiful bow with beautiful tiller. Well done! 8)
-
Very nice work man. You are cranking them out. I really like the curves on this one. Did you induce reflex or just the recurves?
-
Thanks alot guys.
Falcon - yes osage tips. Forgot that tidbit
shaneisneato - I got the skins from Kurt at briskybows.
they were huge skins, I still have enough to back another bow.
I don't live in the woods, but in Vancouver the forest is not far.
Idahomatt - I put it on a caul and tried to cook out twist and get ride of about 1.5" of deflex. The twist was fixed, but only retained about an inch of reflex.I ended up losing it all, and only shows the slightest string follow after shooting. The recurves were boiled in
-
Beautifull bow! :)
-
Real beauty
that fish is awesome
I'd like to see a buildalong of that cane wrap. What type of cane is it? it's boiled to curve it that way?
-
Beautiful work dude
-
Dam! You fixed that limb I see
-
Beautiful work. You really got the knack for sure, well done!
Got to visit Vancouver once and went up to Whistler. A truly amazing place.
-
Awesome work! That's a fine looking bow. Beautiful place to live too. Those pictures make me want to go hunting.
-
Oh yeah, that's a nice one! I always enjoy seeing your bows and forest backdrop.
-
Beautiful! The look of it personifies the Northwest. I think you may have another Bow of the Month on your hands.
-
Very nice all around Indeed!
-
Nice bow! I'm getting ready to do some sturgeon skins on a yew recurve here soon. You stole my thunder. ;)
-
That is a beauty. Looks like a real pleasure to shoot. 8)

Nice job wiz :)
-
That's a beauty. Nice job.
-
Thank again guys.
GlisGlis - Handle wrap is alot easier than you think. its just built up leather, and a split piece of cane thats been soaked in hot water. dry it off
and use super glue to secure it you wrap. i spiraled about 6 or 7 pieces of silk soaked in glue between the cane, i didnt like seeing the leather peeking out in spots.
loefflerchuck - i sure did, thanks for the second opinion on a tiller i was obsessing about.
h rodes and parnell - not a day passes where i dont feel blessed to live here
weylin - sturgeon on yew is certainly a eye catching combo. cant wait to see yours
-
Man, that's a pretty one.
-
ah!

-
I keep going back for another look.....I'll with out a dough vote for this one for BOM.....very nice tiller and finish work!

Beautiful bow, I love the nocks.
GlisGlis, go to a craft shop and ask for rattan for chair seats, it's narrow and you can still thin it down
Duke

Great looking bow Wiz, The skins and Osage tips really complement to yew.
Well done

Love this bow. I'd be interested to hear more about the tillering with the 1 3/4 difference. I can't get over the look of the skins. Sturgeon is classic for Oregon. Very nice nod to the home state.
