Title: How does locust take leather dye?

I've stained a fine maple or two, but beyond that I've left the locust I use more often u touched I. It's natural glory  ;)

However, I'm thinking some orange with red stripes fading to black in the levers would look great. Will locust take the dye well?

Yes, locust takes leather dye pretty well. I rarely dye bow wood anymore but used to when locust was my primary bow wood years ago.

Can look good with dye but I would dilute the dye a bit and experiment on some scraps as wizardgoat suggested. Dyes can often take on a different look or color on different woods as you probably already know.

Yeah I thought it'd be best to sand and stain some of the larger shavings around here to get an idea of how it'd really look if you guys thought it was worth it.

It takes stain very good. Steve Parker has made some nice Locust bows with real cool, looking, stain jobs.
