Did they change b50? I made 2 new endless loop strings today both are 16 strands the same as my old string. The new strings are almost twice as wide as the old one. I can't even get a mock on the string. Anyone have any ideas?
-
I have never used 16 strands, but then again I am only pulling 50-55 lbs.
I usually use two bundles, 6 to 7 strands in each bundle equaling 12 -14 strands combined.
I have made 3 bundles strings with 4 strands in each bundle.
once they are stretched in, I serve the string. So far so good never broke one yet :)
-
Also, Just to add, My arrow self knocks are cut 1/8'' wide.
It could be your knock width, or the amount of twist you put in the string.
-
The nicks are commercial plastic glue ons. Same as used on the old string.
-
I just made a 14 strand and when served it is right on the money.
-
Thanks for the replies. The question still is why are there differences in the string when the same number of strands are used?
-
Dunno, but manufacturers are always changing stuff (usually to save money) or screwing up.
Last lot of Astroflite I got has almost no wax on it, previous batch was lovely and tacky with wax.

Did you use the same serving? That can vary in diameter but it is usually marked. Jawge

Come out of the stone ages guys and start using fast flight! ;) I use 8 strand strings for 50 and under and 10 strand for anything over. 16 strands is a massive string, but whatever floats your boat.
-
Missile, I'm sorry that I don't have $72 to buy fastflight, maybe you can buy it for me?
-
Did I miss something? LOL.
This is the PRIMITIVE Archery Forum.
Why would we want to come out of the stone age? We like it there. :)

The stone age is where it's at. ;D I'm just saying.
I only use B50, Because I don't have access to sinew or squirrel hides.
People "the kind who came out of the stone age"
kinda frown on a barefooted shirtless guy roaming the city shooting tree rats with arrows. ;D

you can get an 1/8 lb.spool of D-97 for $20 and you will get about as many strings out of it as a 1/4 spool of b 50 because it takes less material to make a string. I just like the skinny strings.

Just Jokes. I'm House poor. Great to have a home of my own, not so great to be two hundred grand in debt.

I bought a 1/4lb of ff for 42$ here in Canada and I think there is enough string material for many years to come!i use 9 strand, 3 bundles made into rope and back spliced
-
B50 is space age material.

As mentioned earlier, the wax content can really vary. Try waxing the snot out of it, then fold a small piece of smooth leather around the string and burnish it in. Ill bet it shrinks down to a size your used to. I use FF 100% of the time, and have for a while. I run into similar findings as you.
