Title: a dumb question
Post by: ssgtchad on September 09, 2014, 10:17:11 am
Is there any reason why the siyahs can't be bent from a stave, as opposed to gluing separately.  Just curious.

I believe some horn bows have a solid core, handle, siyahs and limbs.

I guess I should dig a little deeper in the mystery of the horn bow. I just assumed that they were all made in a similar way. Thanks.

Chances are you won't find a suitable piece of wood.
You can make cores either 3 piece or 5 piece using V splices.

mike is right,, its very hard to find just the right pc of wood  for a 1pc core,,i gave up finding that pc of wood long ago,,but I have made a core with just three pcs,the riser carved in ,the siyahs added later,,
using just one  can be done ,takes a lot of looking and culling of material...

p.s.  I do have an acient  crab bow, that the limbs and siyah are 1 pc then splices at the riser,,,hence    proven methods =proven results
