thanks for all the helpfull tips and advice. ended up 50" and about 50 lbs at 25" draw. shoots really good. shots come off it smooth and fast.
-
couple more
-
Nice. Have you got a full draw picture?
-
no. have to get the wife to snap one for me. I'll ask tonight. seems alot of folks post full draw pics. does that help in the evaluation process?
-
Nice bow! Full draw pictures give a nice view of your tillering skills.
-
Full draw/tiller is all that truly matters Thomas. It can look as good as ever, but if its not bending properly it really doesn't matter how good it looks.
-
looks good, it looks like a tricky stave to tiller for a 1st bow. i would be tempted to narrow the tips abit, they look very wide unless its just the pics. wheres the money shot :)
-
tips may be wide maybe not. not sure myself. I'll get a pic of the tip with a 500 spine arrow on it for a referance. and then one at full draw. I'll take any input you guys throw at me. maybe I'll get good at this someday.
-
I think those tips are wide and thick, judging by the ring pattern and how there doesn't seem to be any taper from the side.
-
I like it, but I would also thin the tips.
-
I'm a little nervous thinning the tips. this is the first adault size bow I have made that has not cracked. one was the tip end broke off. really don't want to break this one. and I'm really enjoying shooting it.
-
Osage can handle a lot narrower tips. They look full width. If u took em down a bit it may get faster. It doesn't look like they r made to bend. Need more specs and pics
-
I suck at pics. what kind of specs will be most helpful.
-
Its your bow, if your happy that's all that matters. If you've had tips break off, it wasn't because they where too narrow. You must have had another flaw. You can very safely narrow them down to 1/2" wide if you chose. You will notice a difference.
-
i'll measure tonight. I don't think they're more than a half inch. but I don't judge inches well. least thats what this one girl said one time ;D I like the it's my bow, I like it comment.
-
Very nice! I love how you set the proile up :-*
-
If you want to get really good at this then make another and another. My first bow looked horrible compared to this. If you like it and it's fun to shoot then leave it as and make another bow. As you get better you can go back touch that one up when you have more experience under your belt. I've looked at a couple of my first ones and just threw them on the burn pile after making several bows. Now if you're planning to hunt that's different as you will want to use the best performing instrument to do the job. It looks great to me though! Well done :) now let's see that full draw shot >:D
-
For clarification were talking 1/2" wide tips not 1/2" thick
Also for your first bow good job man. Ur the one shooting it. If u like it leave it. Make another with what u learned and were recommended
-
here it is drawn to about 24".
dimensions are
ends are both 13/16" wide 3/8" thick
handle is 1" wide by 9/16" thick
-
the more I think about it the more inclined I am to build another. it was very difficult to do. took forever and I know the wife hated all the wood shavings and saw dust everywhere for the past 10 months. but I really like it and think it could be better. so I may just have to look for another really nice tree this fall.
-
Looks like a fine bow to me.
-
You got it bending nicely. Really like that profile. Nice work!
-
nice that is holds some reflex ,, even drawn to 25,, good job,,
-
Nice looking fd ;)
-
full draw looks great to me, shoot the hell out of it and start another, theres no going back now you will be hooked :D
-
That's a really nice strung and unstrung profile! I bet it does shoot good!
-
Nicely done!
-
Outstanding! Enjoy and then make another because you need a spare! :) Jawge
-
Great job on the tiller, I expect we will be seeing more from you. I agree on the last several inches of the tips being narrower. You did a real good job of maintaining your unbraced profile as well.
-
Looks good
you did a fine job!

-
The tiller looks good.
-
Outstanding! Enjoy and then make another because you need a spare! :) Jawge
