Most of us know what kind of guy he is - down to earth, generous, good sense of humor, hard working, man's man. Even if you've never met him, you can probably tell where his passion is just by reading his posts. Many bows have come through his hands and this one is no exception. So, when he gifted me this stick at the classic, I knew I was gonna enjoy working on it.
He kept talking about how dark that piece of Osage was and eventually when he split it he handed half to me. There's no question that this was some primo stuff even if it was a bit narrow on one end. I carefully took it down a few rings, then laid out the bow and went to work.

After inducing a little reflex, the build went really quick and I was able to take this bow from stick to target in a matter of a few hours of work. A few minor tillering adjustments later and I decided to leave this bow plain and simple. I did build up the handle with cork and wrapped it with soft chrome tanned leather. Other than that, 4 coats of Formby's best and a dyna97 string are it's only adornments.
This sliver of Osage is rarely over an inch wide for its entire length and still gives 55# @ 28". The somewhat rough finish and minor longitudinal cracks in this bow keep it humble, but there are no bad marks for its performance! It's fast with a solid thump! Thanks again, Clint, that was a nice gift!

I love this bow. Great job on this one, this really makes me want to give Osage a try.
-
NICE - Just the way I like 'Em, sweet & simple. Well done - Bob.
-
Beautiful bow, that bend looks perfect.
Grady
-
Real nice bow Scott. And yes, Clint is one of a kind. Not too bad for a short guy!
-
That turned out great Scott. Those grain lines look amazing. I'm glad you were able to get a hunting weight bow out of it. Maybe one of these days I'll finish up my half.
-
Them are the kind I like!
-
Nice build, Scott and the full draw looks good and round. Very nice simple bow. 8)

Full draw is so easy on the eyes.
Absolutely agree. Nice work.

Two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet on the giving and receiving end. Good looking bow Scott.

-
Nice one Bro!.... Brian
-
Beautiful bow Scott, really like how the grain pops.
-
You can't beat that dark osage, Scott. You did a great job with that piece of wood. I was also gifted with some fine osage at the Classic from Clint and you aren't wrong about what a good, stand up guy he is.
-
Super nice bow Scott! Done a fine job buddy :)
-
Wow. Very nice full draw! Love the red Osage when I can find it. Good on you Clint.
-
Well done Scott............

Thanks again, folks! I would say this bow practically made itself, but I did have to supply the ice tea. >:D

Beautiful wood...nice job with it....that dark stuff is some good wood to boot!!!
When are we going to see your better half's dark 'sage bow??? :)
-
I love the simple elegance of your bow. You did a great job
-
Scott,
Sounds like you got a lot out of that stave with barely an inch finished...The handle wrap is really nice and the tiller is outstanding, like the natural nocks to man ;)
Don
-
The unbraced profile is so impressive to me, on that skinny stave. I guess Osage is some alright stuff :o I love it when the tiller just seems to fall in place. Great work!
Gabe
-
Thanks Don. Clint talked me into leaving it naked, and she handles it well! >:D :-[ ;D
Gabe, you're right about osage. It's pretty good bowwood. Not all the same, and I believe this stick was top shelf stuff, but clearly this bow is not ground breaking work. Osage can handle a lot of different designs and still perform well. That happens to be why I love it so much. This stick only had one option and it turned out nice.
-
Nice work man
-
Don't know why it was locked but I unlocked it.
-
You beat me too it, Eddie.
-
Thanks Eddie, I think that was my fat fingers.
-
Your welcome Scott but I don't think you can do it. ;)
-
Nice build Scott! Yea, Clint's a great guy, a privilege to call him a friend.
-
Hey! that's a sweet bow!
-
Thanks Cody and Dubois. It's one of those bows that when you pick it up, it truly does fell like a bent stick. Not always my cup o' tea, but fun to pull off once in a while.
-
Another fine bow amigo!!
Cipriano
-
Good work on a beautiful colored wood!
-
Great! Nice & simple, real bow! And no funny, non-traditional & unnecessary arrow shelf pegs in the handle (which seem to be some "fashion" there behind the Atlantic ocean...). :)
