here's an osage static i just finished. she is 62" long and draws 65#@28". i patterned her after the early bear statics. i used osage and walnut for the string groves. i also put a double shelf so i could flip her around and have either limb be the top. enjoy!

I enjoyed it - that's a beauty!! The tip closeup's a little blurry but looked damn good. That arrra looks yella too, what's it made of?
-
You did a super nice job on that bow! Just wish I could get a better view of those recurves, osage and walnut look great together. Think we could get a better pic to view, maybe a pic of the handle area also? Btw, the tiller looks spot on!
-

-
Wow, that bow looks really good. I've got to try that design sometime - it doesn't get much better than what you did.
-
Nice bow Chris. I just built a lam version and thought about posting pics but not after looking at this :) I'm curious if you dont mind, how long are your tips starting from the curves? Did you flute the brush knocks or does the string just lay on top? And do you notice any more hand shock compared to the standard statics you've built?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really into the old deer slayers.
-
All these bows are really awesome. I sure would like to see a build a long forfor a static with these type of bush knoks or whatever they are called.
-
You gotta understand this That is Outstanding ! That is the best bow Ive seen yet.
-

Very nice. Would love to see the handle and double shelf, although honestly I'm repulsed by it's proposed purpose.
-
Very sweet bow Chris. Those recurves look great and tiller looks right on. I bet that's a quick shooting bow. Keenan

Yup gotta agree, she looks real nice and the Grumley style brush gaurds just add to its beauty and character.
;D
-
Excellent bow. Did you have much trouble lining up the tips? That has always been my big worry on these kinds of bows.
-
Really nice lines.
I guess the recurves are steamed in? How do you then shape the other lams onto the recurve for the rbush nocks?
Now I am wondering if I could make one of those in Ipe/Hickory or Ipe/Boo.

Nay, nay, nay, nay, nay, I shot it too. You said you weren't going to post that ol' dog. ;) Just kidding, It's one of the prettiest and smoothest shooting bows I've shot. Chris, I still have a few Damascus knives. ::)

thanks guys! i started on this bow last june. with all that's going on it's taken me that long to finish it up. a few more specs, the fades are 1.5" tapering to a point with just under 3" statics. i used bison horn for the tip overlays and steam to bend the tips. i hand rubbed 8 coats of tru-oil and then went over the finish with stock conditioner to give a satin finish. i think i used my 60 degree form on this bow. i put rests on both ends of the grip because i noticed the lower limb of some short statics start to take a little more set after 500-700 shots. didn't want that to happen to this bow. never really checked the weight while i was tillering this bow out so i was surprised to find out the weight was 65#, she feels like 60. i wish i could go into detail about how i put the brush nocks on but it is a patented cade technique (steve and eddie will get this joke), but if everyone will keep a secret i used 1/8" strips of osage and walnut. heat them up with a heat gun, put on a little titebond, and clamp them down to fit the bend. the bow should slide through the bushes with ease with these brush nocks. i really can't feel any handshock with this bow. eddie and steve shot her a couple times, maybe they can add something as to how she feels. here are a few more pics.

What a lovely bow. Functional and beautiful. I'm convinced that 65#s is the perfect weight for a man's bow.

Very nice work
-
Yep, it's a sweet, smooth-shooting bow, and it has a good smooth let -off when the string lifts off the recurves. Like Chris said, it doesn't feel like you're pulling 65# until you see that arrow go zippin' off at mach 2. Oh, by the way, I ordered that Robert E. Lee meets the AK47 book you were telling me about, should be a good'un. :)
-
i meant to check to see if i still had a copy before you left sun. you'll have to post a book review when you're finished.
-
That's what I'm talkin' about! Wow, I really like it.

Nel's would be quite proud to see this..you really captured the essence of a Grumly bow....just awesome!....Brian
-
So Chris. You just heated the walnut and osage strips and bent them to the curve? Damn, why didn't I think of that. ;D I have wanted to do brush nocks and now I will. ;) Pat
-
that's all i have ever done. just make sure the bend is flat and becareful not to crush the walnut as it can be soft and brittle. i saw a bow at the florida shoot with tom and eddie last year that had miniature brush nock on a longbow. i'm gonna try them this summer on a bow.
-
That looks like a perfect bow! Good job on the nock detail. Looking forward to seeing it at the end of January for Bow of the Month
-
I hunt and 3-D shoot with 60 and 65# bows. I would have never thought this bow was 65#. At 20 yds, after I got used to it. Two straight bullseye's, I pointed the bow where I wanted to hit . It's the flattest shooting bow in 20 yds I've ever shot. It is for sure a "Man's" hunting bow. ;)
-
Thats so sweet Chris. I'm sure Fred and Nels are having a toast in honor of your bow!
