Title: Osage recurve tip help? Updated pics!
Post by: lebhuntfish on July 06, 2014, 06:26:09 pm
What do you guy's think? This is the first tip I ever tried to finish. Should I shorten the very tip and make it more blunt? When the bow is braced, it don't touch the belly at all or the curve at the tip. Do I need to make the string grove longer, like down the belly side? Thanks for all the help guy's! Patrick

Patrick, that is a nice looking tip. Will you post a pic of the bow braced? Your recurves might not have enough curve to them like a bow with reflexed tips.

Your probably right Pat, I guess it would be more of a reflexed tip bow.

I agree with Pat B....nice looking tips.  And it does look like a "Flipped" bow, not really a recurve.  Brace looks a little long, but the bend in the limbs look good.  How does it shoot?

Thanks guy's, I'm working on the tips and handle which when I'm done I will Lower the brace. It shoots pretty good, if I could just get the chance to shoot it some more.

Tips and the bow look good to me.  Your brace looks ok to me too - I can't read your numbers on your tillering stick - but 7" is pretty typical for a brace height.

Those handle fades look a little abrupt to me, but maybe I'm crazy.  I would smooth that transition a bit.

You can reduce some thickness at the tips as well...u can prob carefully remove those islands on the belly of them n still be aok on keeping them static

Thanks guys for all the replies!  I will take some of the island off the belly side of the curve to help reduce weight.  As for the handle, that offer some work. I knew I needed to work on the fades and the thickness. I hopefully will get to work on it today. If not I will finish it at mojam for sure. Thanks again all for the comments and help. I will post pictures as soon as I get some work done on her. Patrick

Your fades will probably be alright because its osage.  Just try to get that transition more gradual and smooth are your net one Lee.

Thanks pearl! It's not too bad for my first go around though, I think.
