Title: Osage gift bow
Post by: Parnell on May 31, 2014, 04:46:48 pm
Hello my friends,

This is a set I've been working on for some time, for a buddy of mine that has been serving in the Marine corps for a long time as an occupation.  He has been over seas and I've wanted to do something special for him.  He is currently in the states and graduating from a school so this set is going to be given as a congratulations present.  I think he will be pleased.  The Osage recurve is 70" long and 53# @ 28".  Ram horn overlays and 'Gator grip.  I'm giving him a basket quiver I wove and six Tamarack arrows with goose fletching.  Three will have field points, three will have Zwickey broadheads.  Also, a necklace with a Alafia River coral point and my wife Angie sewed a fleece bow sock for him.

There is an extra B50 string, but the string the bow has is fast flight with ground hog silencers.  I shot this bow at the Tennessee Classic and it's a good bow.

Thanks,

Stephen

I hope he feels appreciated, Thomas.

Here is a photo of the arrows I've been making to "stick" onto the string.  I do this with a drill bit, it's great.

Real nice gear, getting all that should feel like hitting the archery jackpot to him. Hand crafted gifts that come from the heart are always the best, nicely done Stephen.

Fantastic bow Parnell ! Great that you would do that for a friend.
I'm attempting a bow very similar and am interested in the mass weight because I've been working one for the bow trade and thinking I've already stretched the limit.

That is an amazing gift, Parnell.  Simply amazing.  The hours of work necessary to create each and every piece, plus the years of gathering the skills to pull it all off, and to pull it off with such a high level of workmanship....that says a lot about you and about how much you want this gift to convey.

And still, it is only a token compared to the blank check the recipient gave to his country on the day he voluntarily enlisted.

Thanks for the compliments fellas.  My buddy should be arriving down here for the weekend so I'm excited to give it to him.

Hey Del, I figure keeping my trunks on is the least I can do for ya'll.  The signs that say, "No shoes, no shirt, no service" are actually needed in these parts, this time of year.  I usually make a good effort to find a shirt before taking the photos but the wet season has arrived down here and we're pushing about 96 degrees and 100% humidity.  Bathing suits and flip flops are the standard uniform for the next four and a half months if you are outdoors. ;D ;D ;D
