A couple of decent sized Black Locust trees came down on private land over Easter, and I got permission to cut them up, so that's what I did.
Probably 1 cord of firewood and 30 + staves once they're processed.

Nice haul! Black locust makes great bows and firewood. I save it for the coldest days, it burns very hot!

Man it's tough wood though. We had a 14 inch chainsaw... it would handle 3 inch branches but that was about it. Had to go hire a nice new 20 inch beast, which did much better >:D Still took quite awhile to get through the big rounds at the base.

Ok, well 4 Saturdays later and it's finally all split and loaded and back at the house. There are 37 staves, but some of them are massive and I'm pretty sure will be split in half again, some maybe into thirds.... maybe 50 - 60 staves once I've processed them properly. Also ended up with about 1.5 chords of firewood, so that's nice too.
Hopefully I can channel Huisme Mollegabet, Patron Saint of Black Locust ;D... because this is going to last me a very long time  :o
