Hey everyone, recently finished my 5th bow, and first D-belly. I doesnt fit all the criteria for being an english longbow, so I'll just call it a longbow.
This stave was a huge challenge for me, it had 8 knots on the back that were really soft, so I scooped them out and filled with sawdust and glue.
The belly had some scary spots, and raised some huge splinters early on, had me doubting it from the moment I had it roughed out.(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag255/wizardgoat/IMG_3683_zpsdc97eb16.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/wizardgoat/media/IMG_3683_zpsdc97eb16.jpg.html)(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag255/wizardgoat/IMG_3684_zpsfda1f397.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/wizardgoat/media/IMG_3684_zpsfda1f397.jpg.html)
It turned out to be my best bow yet, for sure my prettiest.
Its 69" ntn 45# at 26", which is my true draw length. I was tempted to go further, but something was telling me to stop!
its had 2-300 arrows out of it, and took 1 1/4" set. cow horn overlays, and built up leather handle.
Thanks for looking, cheers(http://i1370.photobucket.com/albums/ag255/wizardgoat/IMG_3787_zps4dbc4415.jpg) (http://s1370.photobucket.com/user/wizardgoat/media/IMG_3787_zps4dbc4415.jpg.html)

Sweet...and your timing in posting this is perfect,as there was some discussion about juniper in a longbow design...even if its only 69" long I'd say its a "longbow" for a 26" draw..I'm assuming this is common juniper cut in Oregon? So how's the cast?
-
That's a nice looking bow man. Sure dig the cherry bark backing.
-
Looks great! Where are the pictures taken? The full draw pic looks like it should be a magazine cover. The beach reminds me of a section on Lake Superior , just below Wawa ,Ontario. I'm pretty sure they still have a couple of feet of snow there though ;)
-
Sweet. Looks like it's got a bit of muscle to it.
-
Good looking bow and scenery.
-
Nice! Looks like Utah juniper? Maybe monutain juniper? Not rocky mt or erc. I think common juniper is any of those 4 depending on where you live
-
Awesome looking bow a nice mix with the wood choice and backing! And that's quite the backdrop for pics!
-
Hey guys thanks a lot. The pics were takin in Ecluelet on Vancouver island.
It's Rocky Mountain juniper, and made from a 4" diam branch.
I haven't put it through the chrony yet, but I'm very curious too. Ill check today!
-
Nice work. Looks like a great design and good use of that Juniper.
-
Beautiful bow and scenery, dang.
-
Hey Carson, are you the Echo archery Carson?
-
I think you mean mountain juniper. Rocky mt juniper has very purple heartwood like erc
-
Sorry your right, it is mountain juniper from Oregon.
-
Good looking bow!
-
Looks great Wizard, I'm really liking your style on the bows you've posted. You have this bow crafting thing down pretty well for having made only a handful, really nice work sir.
-
Really cool man! :)
-
Yep, that's me. :)
It is Juniperus occidentalis, commonly referred to as western juniper. Again, nice work with that stave.
-
Thanks guys, and thank you Carson for the stave!
-
Nice and sleek. Very sweet. Nice bow!
