I was quite pleased with the way the last HHB recurve turned out so I decided to make another, this time for myself. The bow is relatively the same design but, at 63" overall, 1" shorter. Also because I wasn't making this bow directly for someone else I tweaked it a bit. The recurves are steam bent and the limbs heat-shaped but this time I heat-treated the HHB, the backing is again Sugar Maple. I glued in a bit more reflex with a total of 6 1/2"" coming off the form. It has kept fully 4" of that, which makes bracing it a bit of a handful. The shallow D section limbs are just over 1 3/8" wide at the fades and the nocks are 3/8" wide with Cocobolo overlays. I tillered the bow out to 60# @ 28" and from shooting it is quite fast. Here's a few pics

Quite frankly HHB is just the perfect wood for this kind of bow especially when tempered
-
holy, that is some profile and bend
-
Thanks.
The bow could actually take a 29" draw probably even 30" but it's only tillered to 28"
-
Thats some reflex Marc. Came out dandy! :)
-
Ooooo I love it.
-
another beauty! man you sure know what I like to see!!
-
Love that design. Looks like it's hardly stressed and unbraced its holding plenty of reflex. I would like to shoot one some day.
-
Thanks guys
Not that difficult to make Jesse, just time consuming.
-
Great looking bow Marc. Looks like a fast one.
-
Wow Mark. That thing looks like its a screamer and comfy to shoot. I really like it :)
-
That's just wicked. Single growth ring Maple? I guess it would be worth ruining a perfect Maple stave for that.
-
That bow looks extremely fast Mark. It amazes me how you consistently build this style into your bows.
-
I like it too It does look fast.
-
I really like how the handle has been shaped. Looks very very nice all around though.
-
Sweet and just right for Elk at 60#
-
Nice and fast!
Like the profiles
-
That looks like a beauty from here :)
-
Sweet,tat has to be a screamer. Very nice work. :)

Thats the kind of bow I see my self making after another 10 years experience.
Excellent.
-
Nice bow
-
I guess its OK ;) .....a lot of ponies under the hood of that sedan ;) these designs are rocket launchers,but man they take a lil more work to make
Will we see this entered in bom? Come on....ya know bom could use a lil more loving ;) :)
-
Thanks guys.
Yes I guess it would be good for Elk, or Moose ;)
-
Blimey Marc, you should think about doing this professionally.... ;)
Very nice indeed. Congrats.
-
That's a beauty Marc. Very nice Sir!
-
Actually Chris I sent the link to the last one to Cip but he never entered it.
-
Nice bow Marc. That's advanced stuff there for a wooden bow.
-
Nice bow Marc. That's advanced stuff there for a wooden bow.
It is and it isn't. The principles are all the same just more work
-
Awesome bow Marc!! Reminds of the Scythian bows.

Mark, it would be kind of interesting to tsee the force draw curve on that bow. Maybe take the early readings at 1" and past 20" at 2" increments. If you feel up to it of course.
-
I think I can do that Steve
-
man I love your style and love that bow! Very nice!
Very inspiring! been working my way in that design / build direction but still have a ways to go. thanks for posting this and others. Got my vote.
While you're doing the F/D what about a chrono? I'm not a chronomaniac...Just curious....
-
" It has kept fully 4" of that, which makes bracing it a bit of a handful." I can imagine the bracing be some fun. I always like looking at your bows and the super job on the tiller. Very cool bow.
-
Thats a beauty!
-
Thanks guys
I haven't used it for awhile but we'll see about the chrono.
I always brace using the push/pull whenever I can and this bow is close to my limit
-
I did a force draw on the bow this morning. It started registering on my scale, which starts at 15#, at 10" and I measured every inch up to 18" then every 2" after that. My scale is not the best and it reads a bit light compared to my other scale but it's easier to use. This is what I got
10" = 15#
11 = 18
12 = 22
13 = 25
14 = 27
15 = 30
16 = 32
17 = 34
18 = 37
20 = 41
22 = 45
24 = 50
26 = 55
28 = 59

excellent bow...looks almost like an asian or middle easten profile that would utilise horn and sinew, so thats amazing to get that out of wood alone
-
Thats very impressive Mark, about what I expected. You are storing about 62# of energy. At 76% efficiency which is very conservative for that bow you will likley get over 190 fps with a 600 grain arrow, maybe up to 215 fps with a 500 grain arrow. The current record for an unlimited simple composite broadhead is about 244 yds. This bow has at least 300 yards in it. As for light arrow flight bows with a decent arrow I would think 450 yards is possible. I don't know what kind of release you have so a handshot chrono test doesn't always tell the full story. Great bow!!
-
That's amazing.
-
Sweet smoth drawcurve!
Not often you see 2#/"all the way up to 28" at those weights.
-
Thanks guys
I doubt it would do that with flight arrows Steve, it's just not built for that. Maybe if it was 6" shorter and tillered to 25"
-
Very cool bow marc!masterfully built!
-
WOW man do you ever sleep,when do dream of those you going to make
-
Thanks guys
I do sleep and dream of bows, just kidding :)
-
And another beauty! Great bow Marc. God Bless
