I want to back the new hickory bow i got any ideas for backing
-
For hard backings try hickory, elm, hard maple or ash. For soft backing try silk, linen(both from GoodWill cloths), brown grocery bag paper, rawhide, sinew.
Is your hickory bow from a board or stave? If a stave you should not need any backing at all if you got a clean back with no violations. If it is a good board with good grain you shouldn't need a backing either.

I think we need more detail. Is it a tillered and shooting bow already? Is it all wood, or FG? What are the specs (length, design, draw weight, and draw length)? Why do you want to back it?

so i made it from a stave it is hickory 64" long pulls 50 to 55 at 28" its really sweet but i violated the growth ring just slightly and it has me a bit worried. what would work best
