He said the shed ain't worth anything so if it crushes it no biggy. He's gonna help me too. Were gonna piece it off till we get past the shed. Then drop the trunk. It should be ok. He's got farm equipment :0)

I was standing on a crop road taking the pictures. It's like 5' off the road. So we have plenty of room
-
I hope there are some straight pieces in there for you. Good luck with it. Make sure to post some pictures of your haul.

The one leaning behind the shed is straight. The other is a bonus. So if I get anything from it well see. He has tons more. He said I could probly take others

Oh you'll be complaining alright....after ya cut it,split etc etc....you'll be saying oh my back, arms, and all these lil cuts, scrapes, and pokes from thorns   ...have fun!!!
-
Then I'll look at the pile of gold, Itll all be worth it. I've cut trees before. It should be a lot more fun for bow wood rather than fire wood. I'm gonna end with a pile of yeller wood.

Also what do u guys do with the top branches? Firewood?

I made an Atlatl, with a six foot long osage dart (...not finished yet - still working on getting it to stay somewhat straight), heavy war club/tomahawk thing, and couple stiring spoons for the kitchen or camping in the last couple of months. Right now I'm working on a pair of nun-chuks. Yellow wood scraps find thier way into all kinds of projects. I can't count the times I've made up a quick dowel pin out of a bit of left over Osage. It's good stuff to have around.

All sorts of things can be made from Osage Branches.
Bows can be made form 3" diameter limbs.
I have always wanted to make a Boomerang from an Osage fork.
Osage makes SUPER firewood. Be carefule burning it.... It will melt
a wood heater or fireplace insert. When filling an Insert or heater it is
Best to put one stick of osage in with a load of other types of firewood.
Like Oak and Gum.

Walking Sticks
Atl Atl
Pen Blanks
Bow Staves (depending on the Branches)
Knife Handles
Tool handles
Wooden Swords for the Kids
Fore Shafts for Arrows and Atl Atl Darts...
Decorative Boxes that will last for ever(nearly)...
Anything you can think of to carve.

Yeah Jackson I know of a few spots, some are of lore some if saw in the flesh. An old man is giving my directions to some near some train tracks. It's around. Farmers used it for fences 100 yrs ago.

Wooden Swords for the Kids
for kids? heck id love to have an osage sword for myself!
-
Very cool. I will be keeping an eye out for it myself now. I live in the middle of a bunch of farms, with nice tree lines dividing them. I'll have to look for some stuff on identifying them.
-
In the fall u can see the apples from way out. Now I look for the tops of the trees growing real knarly and most I've found are leaned on one another.
-
Yes Sir...
If it ain't Fall when the Horse Apples will be hanging, I look for the upper branches...
for in the chaos of the tree top will be many Bow Shaped limbs that arch off the Trunk, Scaffolds or each other.
And to me the bark has a kinda Rope look to it.
Also, down here at least, I look for the dark Rust-Red of old Osage in old dead broken off limbs on older trees...
Once you learn what to look for they'll jump out at you... even while driving. :)

U got it Gus, the bark has a orange tint to it inside the deep furrows. I've found all mine while driving
