Title: Yew Take Down Selfbow
Post by: Dean Marlow on March 24, 2014, 09:04:26 am
Here is a Yew take down I have been working on all winter when the weather would permit. 66" long. 1-1/2" wide to mid limb then tapers down. 55 lbs. @ 28" The tip overlays are Black Walnut and African Black wood. These were not sister billets. I had one short piece for several years and finally got another to make this take down. The one piece had more sap on it than the other so I thinned it down to try and match the other piece as close as I could. I am a Osage man and it was really tough on me to thin the sap on one of these Yew pieces as I just couldn't follow a ring to follow on Yew. Had several seasoned Walnut boards so I made me a little carrying case to go along with the bow. I have to get a couple of tie down straps to put in the case to keep the bow from moving around.

Man that is gorgeous. That's my fave style of bow, looks so good caramel and cream (drool).
Bet she's fast and smooth.

Oh what??? Fancy box too? (falls off chair)

Wow Dean, talk about classy.  The box the bow.  All around great job.  Should be fun to take to shoots.  I always love a break-down weapon in a nice case.  Reminds me of my favorite over under.  Thanks for posting. :)

That is a beautiful bow.  Looks like a great match for not being sister billets.  Nice work on the carry case too. Top notch!

You did good, and look forward to seeing it beside an animal, soon!
