Title: Kids bow tiller check

I am building a bow for a lady at works little boy (9, I think).  The stave is a thin belly split off a gift stave from Osage Outlaw (off the big tree).  It is still long at 64" and is 1 1/2" to mid limb. I've got it tillered out to 26" so the boy can hopefully grow with it. I had to glue on a handle riser so I could cut in a shelf. I need some experienced eyes on the tiller before I go any further with it.

A big thanks for the stave Outlaw. Got two bows out of it.  :)

Glad you could make something from it Greg.  Maybe get a little more bend coming out of the fades.

Yeah, trying to keep my handle from popping off. I'll ease on into the fades a bit.

Anyone else? I dont have a braced or unbraced profile shot, but there's no knots or character.

hard to tell the pic looks to be at a slight angle, a litt'e at the fades and check the top with a straight edge, looks stiff at fades and mid out, but could be the angle

Thanks bubby, I'll check that in the morning. I can see that in the picture now that you pointed it out.

Bottom limb looks good to me. Top limb looks a bit stiff at the fade and tip. Parallel limb taper, or pyramid?

Here is another shot after doing some tweaking on the outer limbs a bit and easing slightly into the fades. Adb, it is parrallel to midlimb.

Lets try that again.

Hey... that looks better. Top fade is doing some work now. If you're worried about your handle popping off, on your next bow, try getting the fade transition a bit longer and smoother. Your handle transition is short and very abrupt.

Yes, it needed longer fades for sure. Thanks for the replies everyone. Time for final sanding and finishing, then surprise a young man with it this week. Hope he likes it!

The look on their face when you hand a kid a bow is worth every minute of effort for me!

Hope he enjoys it.  I would have loved to had a decent bow as a kid.
