Title: Osage, Rat Snake, and a bit of character
Post by: osage outlaw on February 21, 2014, 02:13:31 pm
I started on this bow last summer and then put it away while I worked on other stuff.  Here recently I got it out and finished it up.  Its 61" long and the limbs are 1.5" wide.  Its 45# @ 24".  The limbs twist back and forth a little and have some concave areas.  It has a kink right in the handle and the limbs curve to the sides which makes it pretty much center shot.  Its a fun bow to shoot.  It is backed with a single black rat snake skin and finished off with 6 coats of tung oil.  The tip overlays are horn.  It has a dark wind check in the lower fade.  I can't get a full draw picture until later today.

When I shaped the grip area I followed the shape of the back where it dips down.

Man I really like the lines of you bows.  There is quite a bit of character in this one and I dig it.  How is it when drawing, does it torque at all?

rps3, I put it away for a while because of deer season and some other projects that took priority over this one.  It made it even better when I got it finished.

IdahoMatt, It draws and shoots smooth.  I don't feel any torque in the grip at all.

Outlaw, you chose the perfect spot for the handle, you should not have any issues with archers paradox. The tiller is spot on and the bows design fits the stave shape perfectly. I would be interested to know what that bow would chrono with a hunting weight arrow.
Just beautiful bro.

Outstanding!  Great work on that one.  I think you should wear a brighter shade of footwear for your next full draw pic ;D     I like the way you followed the grain and worked it into your handle.  That's got to be a sweet shooting bow.
