Was asked to give a little speech and a quick demonstration on my hobby of shooting and building longbows at our local scout banquet Sunday evening. Before I got done they were sitting on the floor by my feet. Watching these young men absorb every word and move you make was something I will never forget. My hats off to the Scout leaders and parents for this wonderful organization. If this is in the wrong place feel free to move it where it belongs. Just wanted to share.

I'm not a mod, so I cant say what their thinking is, but to me this was the perfect place for this. Love seeing these types of posts. My hat is off to you Sir.

The coolest thing our local scouts do is the box car derby.
I offered to lead a bow making workshop for them and the parents didn't seem interested.

;D It's amazing!!! You have a good Scout troop to work with there and that grandson of yours looks like a pretty stout young man.

I think the little fella all the way to the left may be a little overbowed lol. That has gotta be a great feeling to be able to pass information and knowledge along to a crowd like that!:-)

Very cool Dean!

That is awesome, the kind of thing scouting should be about!

Very nice Dean. It gives one great satisfaction to share things we love with future generations - as well as do wonders for them. It is hard to say how the time you spent with them will influence them far into the future. Well done.

That's awesome! That's actually what got me started building bows. I'm a scout leader. I work with older boys from 14-18. a few years ago the group of boys I was working with at the time wanted to build their own bows for an activity. So I had to learn how.
Thanks for sharing this and passing it on. Good on you brotha!

I was never involved with scouts while I young. I grew up on a farm so 4-H and FFA was the thing. But sitting threw this scout meeting I was truly moved on what they do. The awards they gave out for there individual achievements and involvement of the parents also is something to see. There was no dry firing done that I know of. My grandson was there policing the bows quite well. Dean

Dean, this thread makes me happy. Good to see you passing it on. Jawge

Nice work Dean!

Nice to see this post Dean, scouting is what got me interested in the outdoors when I was a kid. Wish we could have had that primitive archery presentation back then, I didn't see my first selfbow until I was an adult. :(
