-
where can wr go from here??! 8)
-
now what???,,,,,,build the best bow thar has ever been built,,,and send it to me!
-
That baby is pipe straight man, you scored.
-
I love ERC,, made other things from it,, but never a bow! I may have to get adventurous and try it one day. I'm so used to making shorties,,48"and under. Don't know much about ERC as a bow wood, but I would think it would fail as a "shorty"?
Just starting a longer one now, 60",,and, man,,that seems awefully long to me!
-
ERC Warbow of course. ;D
-
I'd split that thing in half and see what's inside. ;) You know, ERC whitewood makes a good bow also so think about the thicker sapwood areas when you split it out into staves.
-
sinew back, and add about 5 inches of reflex into it and make yourself an awesome shooter. Pyramid maybe? Would probably be sweet, especially if it were on my bow rack.
-
warbow time. ;D
-
im thinkin warbow...but i do like the idea of a pyramid as well. ???
-
I imagine you have enough wood in it to make both of them, the better question is which one will you do first?
That is a beautiful specimen of ERC. Such deep color, really pretty and I hope whatever you make from it turns out well.
-
I'll be watching to see what you decide to do with that beauty.
-
truthfully been lookin at this tree for about 3 months ..just drooling ..got the go ahead on it fri...almost cried...almost. lol
-
I still say split it in half and see what's inside before deciding what you are going to make. ERC notoriously has lots of limbs and there might be plenty hidden under the almost perfect looking exterior. I'm just saying... :-\
-
wasnt ignoring ya patb....will be taking your advise..rest assured...and thanks.
-
I'm wondering at what elevation did you cut that tree?
chuck
-
did what splitting i could with what i had.
-
next week ..going to INKs to commandeer his bandsaw..might be able to get 4 maybe 5 staves if im lucky..took pats advice..only 4 little branches inside..yee hawww!!!!
-
66"-74" bendy handle. Rawhide or linen back. 50~ lbs. Better yet... Send that log to me. I love ERC. On balance, it's still my favorite wood. That may be because I am only a fair bowyer and the best way for me to make a pretty bow is to use pretty wood. But that stuff makes a great shooter too.
-
Looks like you got a good piece of cedar I sure do like the aroma off it while working the stuff.
-
chuck...whats the elevation,, lol,, it was on a slight hill ,,but the flat part of it..im in TEXAS , there aint much "elevation" going on!! wait
.you are serious...gonna have to look it up. ???
-
Erik i think were about 300-350 Feet above sea level
-
heck i have enough of a time makin a bow..now i gotta think about elevation too,,, dang...my head hurts..Ink says 300-350 ..will go with that....lol
-
Looks real nice! I would peel the bark off and shellac it if it were me. Looks like you could get some nice bows with perfect sapwood backs. I done that and it worked out well for my wood. Found some knots under the bark that never would have seen otherwise. Marco
-
I will be watching this. I have four ERC staves that I got in a trade. I haven't started on them yet. Does anyone know how the white sapwood compares to the red heartwood in terms of compression/tension?
-
Man I got a tree just like that down at the end of my lane. I been itchin to put chainsaw to bark on that baby for a few years. This mighta just pushed me over the creek bank!
