Anyone ever build a bow out of Madrone? I would love pics if you have. :D
Thanks, Cody

Dang, that's a cool tree! I just looked it up. I don't know anything about it being a bow wood but I always get whatever wood I can so I can at least mess with it. If you have access to it go ahead and grab some and get it curing.

I've seen it used as a belly wood if you can get a nice piece. It usually grows spiral though, you'd have to saw it out most likely. Real hard dense stuff.

Many Groves are also now protected in the PNW, as it has become a biy endangered in some places. There is a guy in Centralia who used to specialize in boards and cuts of Madrone....Something like Hardwood Specialties or something of the like...

Back it.

Heavy but brittle.

I can get boards at my hard wood guys, never got around to it yet

It checks very fast and deep. I gave Gun-Doc a piece last year, if anyone can make a bow out of it he can.

Its hard, and best used for areas of a bow (Or the entire bow) where you want solidity, but it does crack easily. Also it is a slightly twisted grower, so watch about that.
