Here is a tree I cut today not sure what it is, elm or hophornbeam. Very hard to split.(http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz103/wdmnerc/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTI0MjcuanBn_zps186f67b2.jpg) (http://s818.photobucket.com/user/wdmnerc/media/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTI0MjcuanBn_zps186f67b2.jpg.html)(http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz103/wdmnerc/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTI2MDguanBn_zpsd321dbc2.jpg) (http://s818.photobucket.com/user/wdmnerc/media/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTI2MDguanBn_zpsd321dbc2.jpg.html)(http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz103/wdmnerc/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTM2MTYuanBn_zps9808f9dd.jpg) (http://s818.photobucket.com/user/wdmnerc/media/bW1jMS9EQ0lNLzEwMExHRENGL0ltYWdlMDEyNTIwMTQxNTM2MTYuanBn_zps9808f9dd.jpg.html)

It smells like elm, either way good bow wood.

Dogwood........You can tell by its bark :o.....Looks like elm.

looks like elm.Plane a small piece to see the grain and you'll know for sure. Definitely not HHB. Bark is a lot finer scales on the HHB.

The first thing that came to mind was elm, I have some like that drying in my garage. But I'm no expert on what are "exotic" trees over here :P
