Title: osage shorty
Post by: paulsemp on January 12, 2014, 07:09:06 pm
Haven't finished one in a while so I made myself clean one up over the weekend. This one came from a deflex stave. I set back the handle and reflexed the tips. I had it at 50 to 52 @ 26 but kept messing with the tiller. Ended up 46@26 but is a easy shooter and am more accurate with it. 53"ntn with horn tips and a little snake I had around. In the beginning the tips where 1" past the handle and after around 200 shots there even. So a little set but not to bad. Critique welcome, thanks for looking.

Full draw is a little short, hard time getting the pic timed.

Nice Paul. Like those profiles braced, drawn and resting, looks like its storing up some good energy in the full draw. Nice finish work as well, and man you got some kinda skinny tips on that one. Cool bow!

very elegant, Paul. I like the small tips and the colored horn. BTW. beautiful arrow, too!
How did you shape the handle? Is it carved in the wood, or upholstered?

OK....no holding back  ;)

I think you could've gotten more bend in and around and thru that knot area in the upper limb...it looks healthy enough from here to get at least some bend out of it..it looks totally almost stiff to me...some folks keep those areas stiff but I think that's too stiff and I don't buy into that train of thought either....its the king make it work ;) it can take it if it looks healthy ;)

Now personal preferences I say its too short for me ;) :D ....and I'm not a fan of setback in the handle bows and how they handle...too each his own....some folks like tall n skinny girls, and some like short ugly fat ones ;)...and they all need loving :D

I will agree mid limb is stiff. Under the snake skin wrap on the top there is a knot right on the edge. So with those double knots I decided to stay stiff. Thank you for the honesty. I have thick skin :)
And for the ladies Chris, I love them all ;)

In all fairness it did take 1" to 1 1/2" of set since it came of the form to now(I've shot probably 200 arrows out of it). But on a 53" bow I don't care :).... coming from a guy that only builds bows over 6' long now >:D  That awe to stir it up a little...... Blacklongbowhawk ;)

Of course it took some set, but both limbs are matched and even still. Seems to me if the top had a stiff spot it would have taken more set in the fade, I don't see it. I think your bow is tipped and slightly 1/4'ed away in the pic. Unbraced bows don't lie man.

Better start practicing now Rock-o. He can hold his own on the course. Marshall is only months away, that doesn't leave much time.
