Trapper Rob sent me this big 4.5lb spall of Keokuk, this is the biggest piece I have ever knapped. My brother has been asking for quite some time for a gnarly spear point to haft and stick a hog with, hope he likes this. Here it is, all direct percussion and pressure.
Hope y'all have a MERRY X-MAS !!!

final product just at 7"

You did that piece justice Elijah that was the biggest spall I ever bought it's been laying in the barn for about 5 or 6 years. Awesome point bud.
Merry Christmas.

Thanks everyone hope you had a good Christmas !!!

Very nice work. can you get any points from the pieces you took off of that?
-
Yes there were about 4 flakes that will make small 50-55 grain points but that's about it

Nice and clean point! Send some pictures of it hafted as a finished spear! Some day I will make it to a wild hog hunt! For awhile they had a problem with wild Russian boar that escaped from a game farm that multiplied and was uprooting hundreds of acres and gave out permits to wipe them out...I might have to drive a few hours south! Again nice work and good luck to your brother!

Hey Rog not sure if you know it but you taught me the most important thing about direct percussion in my flintknapping career. Flakes only travel over convexity. Since then i work my spalls into a lenticular form first, and have way less hinges and stack. Thanks man !
