it has been a while since i posted anything(or been on here regularly) life has been pretty hectic the last 2 years and it interfering with my bow making ;)..... but anyway........this is my version of a finnic bow based off some pics i found, most have siyahs attached but some are heat bent in so that is the route i took. it is about 45 lbs at 26'' and shoots straight , i put on a sinew backing and snake skins that i got from cipriano(gracias amigo) . this bow has been in the works for a while but finally finished it a few months ago, i have a few more in the works hopefully life will slow down so i can work on them :) i'll try to get a full draw as soon as i can get someone to take the pic.

That's a very nice looking bow. Those style of tips make me nervous though.
-
thanks osage outlaw, i agree they made me a little nervous at first but they are pretty stout. not worth the trouble of carving them out though......i'm sticking to plain ole knocks .
-
See everyone seems to say those nocks make them nervous but I haven't had any issue and I shoot a lot. I see no problem with those nocks. I may change my mind when something blows up on me but for now they're ok ;D

Cool bow ;)

Cool bow ;)
I agree...can't wait to see it bent on over
-
So that's what happened to that bow lol.
-
Looks beautiful, but like it's been said there's no reason not be worry about those knocks. I could see them wish sinew wrap to hold the rings together since there's still a good bit of un-violated wood, but as is nothing but the early wood is keeping the rings together.

Start knocking on Neighbors doors, and get that full bend picture on the way! Beautiful Bow! :o 8)

Never seen tips like that...is that bow asymmetrical? Nice work and would love to see it hauled back...
-
Those style of tips make me nervous though.
But I have to say they look sweet. Though I might glue them up the other way around?
Very nice bow for sure. What about it is specifically finno ugric? The skins look utterly american... ;)
-
Great looking bow!! I like those knocks. I've made one bow with similar tips, never had a problem with that bow, but they did make me a little nervous as well.

Lovely!

Liking the looks of this bow, very nice.
-
Very nice but I don't think those nocks would survive the misfortune of a dry fire
-
here is a full draw.
the two bows unbraced are pics i found online and used for reference they are finno ugric replica bows, my tips were originally shaped more like that but i shaved them down to reduce weight on the tips and heat bent them instead of gluing on siyahs. the bow is supposed to be wrapped in birchbark but i added my own style ....so, it is more of a finnic inspired bow than a replica....the skins are definately americana 8)

sa, that's a really nice bow! I like the curves on it. Anytime ;) Those skins and yellow wood make a great combo. Love that full draw. What current country or countries would this style have come from?
Cipriano

Beautiful bow ,bet its a shooter.
-
cipriano, from what I've read they are from countries like finland ,Scandinavia,Russia, Siberia, Hungary(Hungarians are finnic and use similar style bows but the siyahs change some) basically they are north Eurasian and were used by tribes like the saami which resemble native americans ,they even share similar DNA.
-
Its awesome. Lota work there, at least for me.
-
Very nice but I don't think those nocks would survive the misfortune of a dry fire
...nor a FF string I reckon.
But the bow is real nice anyway.

here is a full draw.

Actually those finno-ugrian bows are composits (birch back, preasure-pine belly).
-
Very cool bow. Thanks for sharing!
-
Great looking bow, you didn't say what kind of wood the bow is made from. The nocks scare me as well but some types of wood do tolerate this better than others.
-
Awesome work, really like the idea of the tips. She's a beaut
-
Looks great. I love to see replica bows.
-
badger- its osage , super thin rings so i sinewed it . not what they are traditionally made from, but i do want to make one with pressure pine .
-
Really unusual and creative - I like this bow alot. Well done!
