It's been a tough night tonight ...................do you think the full moon has many thing to do with it??
How many of you guys pay attention to the moon phase when hunting or even fishing??

I don't like hunting it the next day, deer here seem to stay out all night. Now,,, ::) If you can find a nice trail crossing a big, white, sandy road you can see quite a while after ::) ::) ::)the sun goes down.
-
Yeah .........I hate to fish on a full moon...the best is two or three days before or after.

Seems like I see fewer deer during a full moon. I guess they move more at night.
My wife worked at a nursing home up until a couple of days ago and she said that the patients would all act a little more crazy during a full moon. All the workers agreed.

Honestly I haven't noticed much difference with a full moon fishing. If anything I think I have had better success during the full moon.
-
Personally, I don't plan trips around the moon phases but I find it more enjoyable to hunt or fish during a full moon. Not sure about the success rate.
-
All good responses ...............It's always been a good debate among the best fisherman I've known,
Osage Outlaw, My wife has been a floor nurse (RN) for 32 years and she swears about or should I say "to" the full moon every month.  Seriously... I think there is a lot to the ' full moon".

All the scientific experts seem to mostly agree that the full moon has no noticeable affect on people. Maybe because most of the scientific experts, are a little off kilter themselves. ::) When I was I was working in the Fire Department, our call volume rose, and we had a few more than normal signal 20's, (looney tunes). Maybe it just seemed like it, but I do know we were busier on Full moons that normally. I know most of the Police departments say the same. But the Experts say it doesn't have any affect, so I guess I and all the others who believe it does, are wrong. ??? :P
I don't like to fish the day after a full moon, as the fish seem to have fed all night. I do like to fish on a full moon though. I also like a full moon party, like we used to have up in North Carolina in the mountains. I have hunted on a full moon before, but never got within shooting range of anything, with my bow.

fish at night during the full moon. Also much fewer snakes generally come out at night during the full moon.

A full moon is great to fish top water, the bait is much easier seen by fish. I always had better luck shark fishing in Tampa on a full moon. Also the tides were bigger, so more fish came and went with the tide water. With hunting, I like a full moon on a very cloudy night. It is my theory that the deer expect the moonlight so they dont move around all day, then get a cloudy night and stay bedded down. Come day break they are up and about more than normal. I also believe they are more active the entire day as a result. And this applies to any large moon, not just a full one. Again, my opinion, but it sure sounds good....
-
You may or may not know that we get the word "lunatic" from "lunar". I don't see any reason the moon wouldn't affect hunting or fishing, as it affects so many other aspects of our lives. Worms, for instance, are reported to be their most discomforting during full moons and easiest to kill and rid during new moons. Either way, whether we believe or not, this video is sure to bring a smile to your face! http://vimeo.com/markg/fullmoonsilhouettes

The deer have been strolling through just after legal hours for the last week and there are 5-10 in the yard every night early morning now.
As for full moons effect on people, we're comprised of 70+% h20 so it only makes sense that it will effect us in a small way similar to tides. My students have been flipping nuts this week and no doubt it has something to do with the full moon. Those of you that are law enforcement would probably agree with increased calls and as OO and Bill hospitals get busier around full moons.

Could have something to do with getting off for a couple of weeks for Christmas
also Tracy. ;) :) I don't pay much attention to the moon when hunting but do find they seem to get up and feed later in the mornings,so on a full moon I try to stay as late as I can, later than I usually do under normal conditions. Don't like the evening as much, they seem to come out right as the moon is coming up and I have to get down. ;) :)

I beleive the moon plays a huge part in my hunting success, and I do try to plan my hunts around the New Moon.
Full moons are for sitting around a fire, drinking something good and telling lies with your friends and famlies.
New Moon (Or heavily clouded nights) are for hunting. I find the deer are so much more active during shooting light that it's well worth watching the lunar cycle when booking hunting days off work.
-
I am inclined to agree with most of that. I have taken deer moving late in the mornings or early afternoon during the full moon, but mostly had much less success the whole week of the full moon.
As far as fishing on the full moon, I think it helps. I know the full moon of May should be a national bream fishing holiday.
People go CRAZY on the full moon. Work a few hot summer full moon nights on patrol and see if you agree with those studies by the mental health pros.... 27 years of law enforcement here, and I have come to expect all sorts of fun and games on the full moon.
-
Can't say I have much of an opinion on freshwater, but saltwater down here I like the full moon and the water flow in the passes. Set me up right at the mouth of the pass with the incoming tide, the fishing is always great, it seems. Nothing like kayaking out there at night, setting up a fire and throwing some chunks of bait.
-
The moon messes with me horrible every month. Keeps me awake and fidgety for 3-4 days. I sweat like a pig to. Been that way for years.
-
I work in the County Property tax office and the full moon brings out the crazies. We have a calendar with the full moon listed on it in our office. There is a lady in the next office down that comes by to see if its a full moon when she has been dealing with crazies that day. She is pretty accurate. Usually within a day or 2.
I rarely pay much attention to the moon when I hunt and fish because it isn't going to affect whether I go or not. If I get a chance I'm gone. Like Pappy, I expect the deer to move late morning or even mid day on full moon nights but I'm still going like normal.
-
Right pappy the holiday break definitely adds to the chaos

Lol... well pearl, that just confirms it. Your a bow making animal :)

How's your temper? Does your beard grow more than usual? Do you have an urge to be near fire hydrants, or trees, or peoples pant legs? ::) Want to mark your territory? ...... Just.... curious is all.......like Garlic? Can you be around Wolf's Bane? Like Gypsie music?

I don't know what a good night's sleep is even during the dark of the moon. Believe me, it's much much worse during a full moon. So yeah, there' something to it.............Art

I used to date a girl that claimed I turned into a were-octopus during the full moon.

I bet that was a long time ago? :o ::)

And she left you? I can only imagine she was a very satisfied lady...
-
I never pay attention to the full moon when im hunting or fishing, but when i was younger i could never sleep well during a full moon. The last 17 years ive been working swing shift and the moon doesnt seem to mess with my sleep anymore.

That was mean Eddie. :( Just because he has a grey beard, and lives in S.D., doesn't mean he can't be as spirited as he once was. Like the old saying goes, just because there is snow on the roof, doesn't mean that the fire's out in the furnace! Of course it may take a little more stoking....... ::). You...... are not that far from the "Old man title". Mr. Parker? You mean that old man who wittles on sticks all day? Yeah, I guess the old people need something to occupy their minds to keep oldheimers from setting in. He needs to get an I-Pad! Then he can look up stuff in the twenties, and remember what it was like when his family got light from electric light bulbs, for the first time, and he didn't have to take the five gallon jug down to the local mom and pop store, to get kerosene from the pump with the crank handle. Yeah, Eddie that was just mean..... funny, but mean...... ;D ::) Don't let him brow beat you J.W. . ;) Let him know you are still...... uh...... holding your own........so to speak....... ::) ;D ;D ;D

I actually enjoy hunting the morning after a full moon. Typically, the deer don't get moving until late morning, 10:00 and later. Considering, I hunt mostly state land, most hunters around here are leaving the woods before 10. ;) The afternoon hunt seems to be pointless though.

Deer still have to eat. I have read that one of the best times to hunt and fish is when the moon is overhead or directly below(180 deg around the earth) and the second best time is when the moon is on either horizon(aka. moon south). That would put dusk and dawn OK and mid day the best. This is everyday and not just during the full moon.
After deer eat they go lay down and chew their cud. After a while they are back up eating and on it goes. I think it comes down to being at the right place at the right time.
-
I definitely pay attention to the moon when deer hunting. I think weather is the most important factor to good hunting but I've found that when the moon is directly overhead or underfoot during normal feeding/travel times (i.e. Early morning, late evening) I see more deer. Combine that with a cold front and it's usually a sure thing to see deer on their feet. I think that's also why during a full moon deer tend to move later toward midday when the moon is directly underfoot.
-
Deer movement/activity under a full moon is part science and part mysticism, but nobody ever says that flipping topwater plugs under a full moon is a waste of time!
-
JW,
Top water plugs are great anytime the surfaced H2O temp is over 58 deg f. " experience " say's it all................... :)

And even more thrilling for northern pike when they are warming up in early summer, too!
