I got my gifts from KNAPPER today.
I've not posted a lot and left too many clues as to what I would like to have or need but Knapper somehow knew.
I pulled the top off the box and found  an assortment of knapable rocks. Some keokuk, an obsidian flake, some raw novaculite I think and some other dark colored stone I've never seen before but looks and feels like it's really strong tough rock. I like it.
Then there was a a nice batch of beeswax, which is something I've been wanting to get and try my hand at some pine pitch glue as well as other things.
Then I found a dried bevar tail skin, which is something else I have been wanting. No specific plan yet for using it but I'll find a use for it. I didn't realize how thick beavertail skin is.
Then there was a real nice antler tine pressure flaker. Which there again. I've wanted to make an antler flaker with a wood handle but havn't done so yet. Knapper knew that.
Then there where a few pieces of leather lacing that has a million and one uses every day.
Then there was a Cool bone knife with a cordage wrapped handle and leather wrist strap. I often thought of bone knives but have never owned one. It looks like it was made to be used and I will use it a little to get a feel of it, but will put it on display mostly because I like the look. That was my wifes favorite thing in the whole package.
Then there was a real nice keokuk bladed skinning knife with a large antler tine handle secured with sinew. Very usable but it will be displayed also. Too nice to look at to be using.
Then there was my favorite most wanted and needed item I could have recieved. A beautiful brown leather quiver with tan leather lacing.  I swear! if I went into a leather store with every texture and color of leather available I would have picked what knapper made this quiver with. It aint got a bunch of decorations or anything that aint functional. Just like I would make one if I went to buid my own quiver. Which I've been trying to come up with the stuff to build one but havn't come up with the right ingredients. The other night, the wife and I where going somewhere when we saw a loveseat thrown in a ditch by the road. I said Man! That looked like leather but we didn't have time to go back and see. The next day she called and said someone had cut a bunch of the material off that love seat in the ditch. I said I know! but it aint leather just a leather look alike but I got it anyway. After getting it home and all it just wasn't the material I really wanted for my quiver so I wound up folding it several times and use it for cushioning under my knapping leg pad.  Then I saw a recliner in another ditch full of water and it was too cold to go look but I have been planning to go back and check it out. Now I don't have to worry about getting my feet wet, climbing in a dumpster or anything to find quiver material because Knapper somehow knew how bad I wanted one and fixed me up. I' could not be happier or more pleased than I am with what I got.
THANKYOU! Knapper,  You have made my Christmas merry!
I'll post pics tommorow when I have more time and better light.     Terry

Hey Victor, this thread is not called "Psycho Selfies"!  Looks like you are photobombing yourself!  Or maybe you are happy with your box of goodies.  That's what I am voting for.

Don't drop that knife in water, you will never see it again!  Pretty cool looking, can't wait to see what you will do for a handle.

Cedar. They are the first ones that I planed out by hand myself.  Definitely a tedious process, but they came out really good.

I came home from work tonight and had a package from Rick Wallace waiting for me on the kitchen island.  It was a nice surprise after a busy day at work.  I opened it up and found a beautiful cedar box with a native design on it.

Rick made the box from a tree that he cut on his property.  I took a look inside the cedar box and found two Ulu knives.  These things are awesome!   The larger knife has a wood handle from Texas and the smaller one has an antler handle from a buck that Rick killed last year.  Thank you so much Rick.  I can't wait to try them out.  And thanks to everyone else that was involved.

There is a scene etched into the blade of the larger knife.

Some really thoughtful gifts so far.  I never really understood how those ulu knives were used, so I looked up some videos and see that they are quite handy for everything from skinning game, filleting fish, or kitchen business like chopping veggies and mincing herbs.  I think I have to have one now :)

Great looking cedar box! I madr one similar for my wife last year except i had a manatee on the top. Wood came from a cedar i took down behind the house. Milled it on my table saw after using a combination of my chainsaw and hatchet to reduce the logs down to a manageable and safe size.

:) When I was searching through all of the posts you had made to get a better idea of what you would want I came across a thread asking about an eastern woodlands style bow so I though this would be perfect, and a few threads about knives so I whipped that one up, I know the knife is not really primitive but it'll cut stuff :)

Finally got the time to get a flat rate box together to ship my gift to ****** ********, so I opened up the box from Pat.

Holy smokes, this quiver is sweet.
Then there's the little knife on the strap.  Good steel and a lot of obvious thought and effort went into making it.

On top of that, there was a cardboard tube I didn't notice at first.  My eyes just about bugged out of my skull when I pulled a sourwood shafted arrow.  Two fletched with a supersharp trade point.

I first made this right handed then I read Aaron was left handed so I had to make another wood body for this quiver. I like the rattler skin on this quiver better than the water snake skin on the original. It is too dark.
Aaron, I've been using one similar for quite a few years now and love it for a hunting quiver. The para cord loop is to hang it when in a tree stand. It works great for spot and stalk hunting. Just sling it back like in your pic and the fletching is hidden but arrows are easy to retrieve.

First off thank you very much Ozzy. That cherry string board  gold nails it is way better than the one I use. Mine has rusted nails.pocket quiver will come in handy.I'm always in the back yard with arrows in my back pocket. That sinew work for me to cause I can never get any.like the wood chunks also. Thank you very much.  I was skinning two deer and my wife text me a picture. You have a package and I don't think this one is an arrow. Killed my first deer Saturday BIG DOE also killed my second deer Saturday a nice buck. Only problem was it was with a shotgun.

I got home this morning and sitting in my mail box was a package from Matt Kulchak, aka IdahoMatt.  It is a very sweet knife.  Just the right size, weight and feel.  I must say that I am surprised.  This won't only be going to the woods but on all my outings.  I know you have seen the pictures and description but here they are again

The scales are made from old growth lilac and black walnut.  The pins are made from bamboo shishkabob skewers. (I'm going to try these on my next powder horn)  The blade is made from an old saw blade.

I hope I do the pictures right.

Thanks Matt.

I received a package from buffalo gobbler. A box call and an agate pot call!! Sweet. I don't turkey hunt but I may have to with these. Beautiful craftsmanship!

It's kinda funny how it worked out but I'm not spilling the beans yet! Shipped mine today, so maybe once he gets it

Bruce,
I'm glad you like the calls, you should try turkey hunting, there's a good amount of turkeys in your area and turkey hunting can be very addicting.
Merry Christmas!

My wife sent me pictures of a suspiciously shaped box that came to the house today. In it contained a very nice walking stick from Polar Bear! I may have to do some winter hiking to give it a try-out, and can't wait to go exploring in the stream by my house a bit more when things warm up this spring.

Ok, Here are the gifts I received. I got 4 bone arrowheads, 1 of which I think is either a fishing point or something. I received 6 shell casings for blunts and 6 stone points for hunting I imagine  ::) He also sent me 13 arrow shafts that he hand planed! 10 ocean spray and 3 old growth fir. TONS of feathers! and they look nice! sinew to put the arrows together. Pitch glue from his second batch. A stone knife and a large section of leather. And also a sinew string, unsure as to whether its good for a bow string or if its meant for survival or what but its definitely very well made, very even along the who string. Here are the picutres I promised. Thanks Ed!

Muffin: I hope you enjoy this stuff.  The string was intended for a light weight bow string but ended up turning into more of cordage. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Ed

I don't knap, Knapping scares me! When I go to the Tenn. Classic, I watch you guy's banging rocks, 12 hrs. a day for 4 days.
And I'm afraid I would like it that much, and I already have too many interests. So I have been trading for points, because one of the things on my bucket list is to kill a deer with my self bow and a stone point arrow.
Thank you so much for the stone knife and the hunting points. Next hunting season I will try to kill my first deer with one of your  points and use the knife to field dress the deer.

Im glad you liked it Rick and u hope it gives you many years of use. To be honest i was gonna send a little something else with it but with having tooth removal and the bad knee acting up again i just was never able to get around to it. I kinda feel like it wasnt enough just sending you two pouches. I hope they serve you well!

Just got some very cool arrows from ScottSki (I'm sorry I couldn't make out your last name Scott  :-[), field points with a 45# spine and a rad paint job. The green/white combo happens to be one of my favorites in general, so these are perfect! Looking forward to hitting the range with them. Didn't get a pic of me with them yet, but my next finished bow post will feature these in the FD pic for sure! 8)

The rules of this exchange required you have someone vouch for you if you hadn't posted a certain number of posts.  I got a private message from Bluegill68 asking if I would speak for him.  I told the Powers That Be that if Sean didn't come thru on his end of the bargain I was offering his recipient choice of ANY bow in my stable - BAR NONE!  Was I ever surprised when I come to find out that Sean was given my name in the exchange.  Pure poetic justice.

In the first box I received 4 cups of shelled pecans.  Oh man, I love pecans.  And I don't even have to go all ninja squirrel on these, the work has been done! Then there are about 4 dozen turkey fletchings...already split and sanded!  Again, the work has been done!  The third item from the box were the two snake skins....and you guessed it...they were scraped clean and trimmed nicely.  And the fourth item from the box was a book that was recommended to me years before but I was always unable to find a copy,  The Red Gods Call.  It's a book in the same style as A Sand County Almanac.  And doncha know it...Sean had already read it for me!  Mind you, I will read it for myself as well.

Two days later, another package arrives....a gorgeous pair of sister billets of osage.  There is a fair bit of character to these staves, and plenty of meat for a takedown.

I scored, and scored well.  Thanks Sean, your generosity humbles me.

Well I have received my Christmas gifts from 1442 and all I can say is WOW!!

Terry, I am greatly humbled by your craftsmanship and generosity.  I made out like a bandit, I got an awesome Atlatl and 4 river cane darts, 4 Stumper foreshafts, 4 practice point hardwood with steel tip foreshafts, 3 forshafts with knapped stone points, 2 judo bunny buster foreshafts, and one foreshaft with a single bevel steel broadhead from a circular saw blade that looks like it could take down a Mastodon.   I also got an awesome rack to hang it all on.

But wait that's not all, I also got a knapping kit with 2 beautiful copper boppers that are amazing too look at as well as use, an awesome Ishi stick, a palm pad, 2 extra lead filled cap for the boppers 3 extra rods for the Ishi stick, an abrading stone and hardwood mandrels to make extra caps for the boppers.

I'm not done there's more.  I also received a bow drill fire starting kit with a hickory bow, a fire board, 5 yucca spindles, one spindle of unknown wood, a really sweet bearing block, a tinder bundle and some char cloth.

Not only that but there was also some back strap sinew, and a nice piece of yucca.  I hope I haven't left anything off.

I got enough toys to keep me busy for a long time, my wife saw the rack and the first words out of her mouth was your not hanging that in the house, but after she saw it with the atlatl and the darts hanging on it with all the foreshafts she was like we will see where would you hang it.  Even she thought it was pretty cool, my son approved of it as well.

It was late when I got home last night so I did not get a chance to take any pics and it will be Saturday before I have the time but if you want to see what I got Terry posted some pics in the progress thread and I have to say pictures just so not do them justice, this has to be the best Christmas gift I have ever gotten and I sincerely and humbly Thank you.

Grady

Got mine in hand on Wednesday Jan 8, 2014. Probably sat in the mail a couple of days cause it went to the NDN Museum gift shop mail box instead of the NPS mail box.

Got a new walking stick from Eddie "Mullet" Parker. I am presuming a cactus bodied rain stick with an elk antler cap, twine wrapped handle, bobcat wrapped handle(at least that is what it looks like) wooden bead dangles with the buttons from two large rattlers, finished with a rubber cap on the ground end. The rain sounds great! Wish we had some here in the central sierra.  Dry enough now to do broadcast burns.

Mullet, My wife won't let me take it home cause she don't like snakes in any form. She says there is too much power associated with them.  So for now it will stay at work.

Ben

I'm glad the gifts arrived safely. There's another package on its way with items that I accidently left out. Tracking shows that it is out for delivery now so it should be there today.
Hope you enjoy it all.    Terry

Ben;

I'm glad it made it without getting broke. Knowing you were Native American I was worried about the rattles. Just clip them off, and it sure looks like I made it tall enough. Glad you like it.

Bowman, I think that the angle of the pic Weylin posted is differant and is causing it to look differaant. In Weylins pic you can see quite a bit of the belly so the limb tips are pointing towards the camera and causing the differant look.    Killer nice bow by the way,    Terry

I also think Bowman is pulling a bit more draw than Weylin which causes the tiller to look different.  Both bows look awesome!

I received a package today in the mail.  It was a long PVC tube!!  It is a beautiful longbow from doulosparachristos (Roy Harper).  I went back and searched on xmas trade works in progress thread and saw that it is a maple backed hickory with bloodwood core.  It was really cold tonight when i opened it so I am letting it equalize in the house tonight before I string it.  I will post some pics soon.  Thanks so much Roy!  I will put it to good use. :)

Last week I received a box in the mail from Gus. When I let him know it was here he asked about the second box.  :-\ Well, it still hasn't got here yet. I guess a postal worker somewhere between Houston and here is enjoying whatever it is.  >:(
Anyway, inside the first box was a very cool, hand carved osage arrow wrench which I will use often and a 91", yes I said 91" dried red tail boa skin. This thing is incredibly beautiful. I'll save it for a very special project. Here are a few pics...

Sweet stick.  Love the inlay.  Is that the kind of tip that screws off so a rubber end, for indoor use, can be screwed on?

It sure Is...

And Danged if it ain't Roght Here on my Workbench!    :o
I'll drop it in the mail to you Mr. Pat...

DOH!

Am I Ever Pleased that it made it... Finally.   ;D

I sure am glad you like it Sir.

Best Regards,

Well, there's a dog and scoundrel in this exchange :o and I'm sure glad I got picked by him ;D. Weylin, there's an old saying," you go to hell just as quick for lieing as stealing" ;D and I'm sure glad you told me that fib. I just got one heck of a pretty Vine Maple bow this afternoon from that artist in Oregon.

It's late and I'll get some pictures of it in it's warm, new, home tomorrow and I'll string and shoot it then also. I went to string it and noticed the top horn tip was missing. No problem, I found it in the bubble wrap and glued it back on. I want to let the glue set overnight before I string it.

Thank you, Weylin, like I said before, it's perfect for me.   ( you didn't have to worry about the book anyway) :)

he posted it in the Bow forum when he posted the bow. Said he'd never send a bow late to the guy that owned the black book. LOL. I was playing it like a Poker hand, counting down the gifts sent to the ones received. I figured it was getting to the last cards and I got the Ace in the Straight Flush.

So glad it made it to you in one p... ok, two pieces, guess it could have been worse. :-\ Sorry that the tip came off, that's never happened to me. must have gotten a good thump in the package. That's a real bummer. I'm glad you like it, I hope it serves you well. You may notice a small crack on the belly of the top limb. That was from my attempt to tame that dog leg. It wasn't having any of that and it let me know right away. I took the pressure off immediately and filled the tension crack with superglue and it never gave me a problem again. I shot it a fair bit to make sure. Sorry 'bout the white lie, wanted to keep some mystery to the end if I could. I'm sure you had your suspicions given that there weren't many left to ship. Can't wait to see the pictures with you and the bow.  :)

Finally home!!!  There it was....a long cardboard tube...with my name on it!! Thank you so much Wylden Freeborne! He sent me the sister bow to Maeven and The Blonde Bomber. It is named "Fade to Black", and is a beautiful yew longbow. Pulls 56# @28". And it came in an awesome cloth cover with some leather trim and a cool tuft of fur (rabbit I'm guessing). My description doesn't do it any justice so here are some pics. Sorry for the poor picture quality.

I got my package a little over a week ago, but we moved right after and I have yet to get some snapshots. I will soon. It is a sweet, leather and fur trim hip quiver from BeetleBailey that I have already taken out stumping and quite like the way it holds the arrows tight and quiet and allows a smooth draw easily. Thanks Beetle!

Skarhand - Glad you got the package! Sorry it was late....I hope you get good mileage from her!

I received my gift a week ago and my family and I been sick for a while so sorry for the delay. I got a gift from madcrow/ Eddie! I received 2 stone knives, 1 obsidian and 1 chert ( please correct me if I'm wrong). Both have antler handles and the tine has some snake skin on it. There was also a bone knife with a jute handle. 2 loose arrow heads, 1 stone / 1 bone. And to top it all off there was a buckskin bag with some beautiful bead work on it. You sir are talented and gifted with skill and quite generous on top of it!!!

I got my gifts from JW Halverson yesterday after the post office decided to finally deliver it... after 15 days...

Got a sweet tool box some honey, an awesome bow sock, a complete fire starting kit, and a couple of bees wax candles (which my daughter asked if they were nun-chucks and then my wife asked me why my daughter knew what nun-chucks were...) Thanks man!!!

Treasure that honey and don't let your Honey get a taste of it.

I love those wooden toolboxes and make them all by hand.  There are no screws or nails, they are assembled with glue and pegs.  This one I made the handle a good bit higher than usual, seems to make it look a bit more graceful.

Savor the honey, it was from 3 years ago and I have yet to harvest from my bees since.  Two of my four hives are doing fine, they were doing routine cleaning the other day when it hit mid 50's.  I have hope for them to both survive the winter.

Not sure if I am the last to receive an Xmas gift, but it is certainly a gift worth waiting for.  Very happy to receive the knife in leather from across the pond.  Thank you very much Mikekeswick.  The blade will get use, I can promise you that.  Not sure if it comes thru in the pics, but the blade and handle are very - mmm -  substantial.  I will not hesitate to hit the spine (no metal on metal) to use it split out bamboo or other small sticks.  The leather work is even nicer than the blade- - except that Mike sure knows how to hone a sharp edge.  Thanks again for the great blade.  Russ
