Post by: bowtarist on December 07, 2013, 04:44:48 pm
Opening morning ML season, 12/07, Nine degrees outside, 9:10 am been out since 6:50a, back behind the house, TC Renagade, had it since probably 1985 or 6, Greenmountain .45 cal. percussion barrel, round ball w/ 60 grains, down hill all the way home. Been a lucky year for me. She's a pretty big doe really, pic doesnt do her justice. One more doe tag, sticks and stings from here on out.

Thanks for lookin, dpgratz

After second attempt I saw my pic was too big. I'll work on getting it sized right. its in MB? not sure what to do.

That's a nice one Derik.  I don't know if I'll make any winter bow shoots.  I prefer a warm house or workshop.

Thanks for the replys Guys! Yea, it's cold and snowy here. Unusually cold and snowy. I knew I needed to get out yesterday morn, but when I came back in I was glad that I didn't know it was just 9* when I went out. That might have made me question myself. Got to get her put up today or she'll freeze solid. Getting the saw running again today, gonna grind all front meat and cut chops out of back and steaks outta hind quarters. Maybe add another pick of the cuts later, maybe not, depends on how I feel, its cold as H-E double hocky sticks again today.  Thanks again for the replies!! dpg

Yea, Thanks Pappy! All in the freezer now. Gonna have to pick some brains about getting connective tissue off meat before grinding. Spent half my grinding time cleaning out the blade of sinews.  Got a good amount of deer in the freezer now though.

Thanks again for the comments, dpg

Been raining here for a week, not good flintlock hunting weather. I am going this afternoon with Mr Beck, got a special place picked out. I have plenty of meat, will only shoot a nice rack antlered buck if one happens by. I will keep the backstraps and donate the rest to "Hunters Feeding the Hungry", if I happen to get lucky. The rut is just now kicking in big time where I hunt.

Here is Mr Beck;

Derik, I grew up in Buffalo Ny and now live in the little town of N. Java in the hills south east of the city.
Thanks for the good wish's, I'm looking for one more deer for the freezer.

Best wishes on your hunt Jdub, Hope you see the buck of your dreams, and can calm yourself enough to make the shot count.  :)

Kevin, Got it, hence the name Buffalogobbler.  ;) yea yea I got it now.

Nice flinter Eric. I buried my Brother with a sweet flintlock, but have never had one myself. Hope to have my own someday.

Thanks for the replys!!

I've seen two original J.P. Beck longrifles in my life.  Both were fairly plain working man's guns, making them very unusual to have survived long enough for me to see 'em.  Yours looks much like his extraordinary workmanship, Eric.

Thanks for the sentiment, Bowtario, but I blew it again.  Somehow I am able to move very quietly and stealthily, enough so that I have been busting deer at 40 yds and less.  I just don't see'em until they raise their tails to wave buh-bye at my!

Nice big old doe Derik, a deer like that is worth braving this frigid weather for.
