A few sneak peaks of my extended weekend happenings. All osage. The bow is 9-10 month old wood and the overlays and grip is 25-30 year old osage.
-
What? No recurves??? ;)
OneBow
-
cant wait to see her bend PD, look's more like osage in these bigger pics
-
..no recurves and a goofy looking handle. ::)
-
Now, you did well with that add on, PD. Note how it sits on the handle where the handle has already begun to enter the flares. Those who like board bows with added handles should check that out. Yes, I know you are using osage. Jawge
-
I always shoot better from a cut out shelf so i actually like them.
-
i like it pearly.
-
Nice. I also prefer to shoot with a cut out shelf. >:D
-
looks like a darn good start pearly! ;)

Jawgey dont you ever use that "board" word in one of my topics again!......;)
Thanks for the compliments on my grip buddy

A man has to stretch his wings once in a while Pat!

Nice. I also prefer to shoot with a cut out shelf. >:D
Specially center cut's..;)
-
That's pretty sharp looking. I wonder how long will it take for the bow to darken and match up with the handle.
-
I'm a little surprised that there's no curves......but he's not finished with it yet :)
Looking forward to seeing that one finished............ Pearl

That shows that older osage darkens throughout, a very controversial topic
-
Hmmm...looks like a Black Widow grip. :D
-
You're likely going to have some creep at the handle glue line as the younger wood "cures". Another controversial topic. >:D
The bright side is it will separate that abomination of a handle from the simple beauty of the main stave. You're going to have to do some skillful work patching that huge gash in the side when you put a proper handle on. First time using a hatchet? :P
-
Yah, I guess you see where I fit in the whole seasoned/dried debate eh' Pat?
Actually the whole grip was an afterthought. The stave didnt have enough depth and I couldnt see cutting 10-12" off it just to make a bendy. Once I had that handle block glued on I realized the possibilities where endless, so I went all out with my rasps and had fun. Sure feels good when drawn. I shot the bow tonite and all I can hear is the string cutting the air, even with no rug or strike plate the arrow makes no noise leaving.

Looks nice PD.
-
That's looking pretty stellar PD. You never fail to impress, can't wait.
-
It's a fine thing, PD, when an osagian does a good b_ _ _ _ handle. Jawge
-
HEY! Were's the F/D? ;D
Look'n gooooood. That grip is really cool. Look'n forward to seeing this one done!
-
Gonna be sweet I think when she's all prettied up. But your bows all seem pretty awesome Mr. Pearlie.
-
I don't think the handle looks goofy... I like it. Outside the box though, Mr. Curvy Tip Boy! 8)
-
Looks great. Excellent way to show the coloration in aged wood. That handle looks like it just nestles in your hand.

She is a neat bow Pearlie. I'm looking forward to seeing some action shots. 8)

-
Nice.
-
Gee....now where did i see those pics before? ??? ::) and i wonder why this one got started ? ::)
Daryls got ya pegged  n we both know why 8)
-
Looking good Pearl. I really like that handle style. The handle makes a lot of difference in how well I shoot and that one looks like it would work well. The mixed ages of wood is a cool idea.
-
Very nice, looks like a Jimmy Blackman grip to me. ;) ;D
Pappy
-
Ill sprinkle some finish on it over the week and post it next weekend, think Im going gripless on this one.
Thanks for the comments fella's, Ill explain better why I did what I did with this one when I post it finished.
-
Looking good. I recall reading a thread with you saying how you switched bows during hunting season. I am guessing this design has something to do with that?
-
Nice looking bow as always Pearl, I was wondering how long the cut is, from the arrow shelf up to where it exits the edge of the bow. Thanks!

You got it Bob. Its a mental game and I will win!

The handle is 4" long and the fades are 3" each. The cut out you mention is the same length as the fade, its a big sight window compared to what Im used to seeing.
-
I like the difference in coloration of the osage. How does osage darken over time? I assume eventually the lighter wood would darken to be the same color as the older? Maybe not be in my lifetime though?
Either way it looks nice!
-
I doubt I will ever get to see the shades match up palioguy.
-
Good luck, I hope it works for you.
-
Looks well designed...looking forward to seeing it!
-
I like it! Will H's trade bow sent to me has pistol grip on it. It is starting to grow on me.
-
That's a cool bow and you did a great job on it........................
-
Man, thats nice.... Brian
-
Very nice..looks like a comfy shooter.

You sure you have the required equipment? >:D ;D :P

Hahahahaha.....good one Bryce boy... n you may be right.....he's been losing that battle for over two years now...I'm about to give up trying to help him :-X  I can give him one of my bows to shoot and he has no issues yanking it back, but put one of his own "babies" in his hands and he doesn't have the heart to bend her over and spank her
Uh oh...someone just let the cat out of the bag and is in trouble :(
-
No cats in bags here. Ive been telling the world about my Bowyersitis, it sucks. I shot this bow last night well, Ill get it fixed by spring!
-
Lookin great
-
