I am more of a flint knapper than a bow maker because osage makes sick/ill but I really like it. When I was at the skunk river knapin I meet bowmo and really liked his bow so I did my best to make a copy of it. It is thinner than my tradition style of bow. His bow shot real fast and very smooth. So anyway this was the best I could do on my first try. It shoots a 540 grain arrow at 163 fps (sure to drop with time) it is47# @ 25.5 and is 62 inch tip to tip. I will post a couple more pictures later tonight.

Sweet. Looks like a nice Molly to me!
-
I still have the handle to finish and some reducing on the tip but here is where I am at this point
-
Just noticed a mistake it is 47@24.5 because I stopped an inch before full draw. The fps was 163.
-
Howdy,, I think it looks pretty and the fps you're reporting is hellishly fast for that draw and pull weight. Ron

Thats kinda what I thought I am sure it will drop as it is shot in. I'm just not great at getting that final polished look.

Nice bow & I thought I had a lot of arrow shafts.
-
That....is....a....nice....BEND! Kudos!
-
AWESOME!
-
Super smooth bend, looks great.
-
Nice bow and I agree with M-P that is very fast arrow speed for the draw weight. With that kind of work you should make more bows.

Yeah and send me some of those arrow shafts. Ron
-
Very good bow.
if you weren't allergic to the dust you could make some fine bows.
Nice width, nice bend and low set. Excellent.

Lol bought 3000-6000 at an auction this summer. The guy did primitive archery and I was the only archer there (me an my buddy Paul) we were bid up to 21 dollars then we won.

We are going to give them away to the new bow builders that come over and build bows. We have four new guys in the group.

Very nice job John, looks like a shooter to me. :)

Tiller looks real good! Good to see you post a bow.
-
With a hevier arrow than 10 grains per pound, you are smoking about half the bows out there shooting a lighter arrow than you. Drop your arrow weight to 10gpp and I bet you will be pushing 180fps. Of course, thats all personal prefernce. A dead deer dont care how fast the arrow got there. :D

Nice bow !!
Good job !
Nice haul on the shafts also !

ty ty ..You guys are being way to nice....after I thin the tips and work the handle I will post more pictures. Many thanks to all of you and also a big thanks to Gundoc for warning me about the pitfalls in advance of this design. I hope Bowmo get to see this post.

Sweet bend! Nice work John! Josh

The cell phone did not do this bow justice, buddy! Wow, what a hotshot she is! At 47 lbs she is not going to wear out your shoulders shooting, either. I feel the ground trembling in fear from here. I think maybe the deer need to start getting worried too!
-
Yep - most definitely a nice one!!
-
Yea that came out great.
-
Bow looks really fine, but how do you calculate fps?
-
Sick!!! Nice work man. I didn't know you were allergic to osage. I wouldn't know what to do with myself! You can def thin those tips and outer limbs down a little and get a few more fps. Sweet bow tho none the less.

Cool Mr Bybee 8)

You don't. A machine called a chronograph has a set of photoelectric eyes set a known distance apart. When an object passes over them, the machine measures the time interval between the two interrputions and converts this to your feet per second readings.
-
Isnt there also a way to do a calculation based off arrow weight, bow weight, and distance traveled?
-
I can attest to the speed of this bow when we read 163fps, then when we chronograped it today after the tips were thinned....... Well, I will just let iowabow tell you. :-X
-
I forgot to add, that my bow that we built side by side shot 150fps 50# at 27 inches of draw. I know what my next design will be!
