I was recently sent a spall of a stone called Kanawaha coming out of WV. My buddy Robert White from the "flintknapping" page on Facebook sold me some tools and threw this one spall in with them. Lets just say it made a man of me and was challenging to say the least. This material reminds me of Argillite.
Y'all should check out that flintknapping page https://m.facebook.com/groups/164848923547186?ref=bookmark&__user=1238034048 if you haven't already. Good group of people there.

great looking point! looks like hard stone

I was making my platforms just slightly above center thickness in the preform stage which i seldom do but it's the only way to get it to flake. If I didn't it would hinge and terminate making stack in the center . Too tough to do much of any pressure flaking did most of it with percussion.

Tough looking stuff, nice point.

Looks like that Johns valley chert we get around here. It is really hard stuff. You did good on that piece .

I was born in WV and have found many artifacts made out of Kanawha Flint. A lot of it comes from the Charleston area. It is tough rock but some of the points I found were nicely worked, but most were crude. It is similar to North Carolina Rhyolite.

This material is cool stuff I like how a freshly knapped point already looks like it's been in a field for hundreds of years. I think I'm gonna try and make a matched set out of this stuff to hunt with. This stuff should make some durable points...got any pics of your finds?

Nice point. Just started knapping myself. Made my first point this weekend. Thanks for sharing.

I've tested the KB points by shooting them into oak trees. Only thing that broke was the shafts. One was hafted on a Tonkin bamboo shaft. Very impressive material............Art
