Title: Hickory board molly
Post by: ssgtchad on October 24, 2013, 11:45:56 pm
This is my first board bow, second molly. She 63" ttt.  With 9" levers that narrow to 3/8" tips. The board was 50/50 heart wood and sap wood. There is a diagonal line running through the limbs. One lever is heart wood the other sap! Not ideal but it seems to be working. It looks like the bow has taken some set, but it more from the heat treatment. I toasted the belly over a burner of my stove, and didn't have the limb attached to a caul, so to my surprise booth limbs developed some deflex! I've tried to heat it out but it didn't work so I'm stuck with it. The tip overlays are Osage, and I have a temporary leather handle wrap on while I'm shooting it in with a leather inlay strike plate. I haven't decided on a finish, I, thinking of just leaving it as is and seal it with some bee's wax. Here she is thanks for looking and comments are welcome as always.

Am I seeing a little bit of bend in those levers? Looks like it's very mass efficient and a fast shooter from here!

That's a great looking bow. I need to make myself a molly. Helped my brother make one when he was getting started, but I never made myself one. Looks like you got her bending just right. Excellent job.

I'm not sure if they are bending or not.  I did flip the tips a bit. I was getting some hand shock, so I reduced the levers and fades as much as I could and still keep em stiff.  She shoots nicely now.
